Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Pilot

By fred | January 3, 2008

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles(PreAir) Sure, there is a writers’ strike going on and as a result most shows have already or will very soon completely disappear, as networks run out of new episodes. For some shows there are still a few episodes waiting, but not much unfortunately. Some shows however have a good handful of episodes ready, for one reason of another. And one of the the shows in this situation is no other than Fox’s new series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

The order was for 13 episodes, not all have been completed but Fox should have about at least 9 episodes ready, which is quite good : that’s more than the 7-episodes second season of Jericho CBS hopes will do great, or than the half season of Lost ABC has in the can (8 episodes).

And there’s no doubt already that this show most definitely the most anticipated new series of 2008. It doesn’t mean it’s good, I mean remember the most anticipated season last year ? It also dealt with “futuristic machines” looking like human beings, almost. It was called Bionic Woman, and was the worst piece of crap ever. How about this one ?

Before I go any further into this review, I feel the need to address something right now : this show is not like any other, it has a background. And if I got things right, it comes after two movies, Terminator and Terminator 2, but - pay attention, cause there’s a trick there - it does not come after, or even before, the third one. No, it is set up in a reality where that third movie never actually took place.

To be clear : there was Terminator, Terminator 2, and then comes this show. The third movie, you can forget about it : that never happened, never will, we just forget about it.

I don’t know how you feel about this, but as far as I concerned that’s just fine. I am not a Terminator fan, and though I’ve seen all the three movies years ago, I don’t really care more than that. had this been about Alien, and you’d tell me I was supposed to act as if the third one never existed, I’d be pissed, very, very pissed. (I guess I could forget about the last one though…)

But when it comes to Terminator, I don’t care that much. Which is also something that is very important, I think, when it comes to my watching and enjoyment of the show itself : I am not a fan of Terminator. Not to say I don’t like it, but simply that I don’t love either. It was good, but that stops there. And I’m pretty sure that this show will be received in two different, maybe very different ways, according to this fact : whether or not you are a fan of the movies.

If you are, I have no idea how you’ll feel. If you’re not, I’d say chances are you’ll love it. Yes, Fox is an awful network who’s not afraid to cancel a great show after one episode, yes many times I wanted to go there and punch in the face everyone I’d meet, but they are still able to put their hands on some pretty damned good shows.

And unlike NBC, while they too are doing a great job on the whole promotion aspect, they first focused on the show itself, and made sure they had something good. And they do.
