Supernatural: The Kids Are Alright

By fred | October 15, 2007

Supernatural(S03E02) Another episode, another girl introduced to the boys, and us viewers. This time we had both girls, although as promised they never shared any screen time or plots, and it’s very clear to it is to each brother his girl.

But that’s not all this episode had to offer, it was filled with a lot of things. Along with those two characters was a brand new plot, a new monster for our boys to fight. And let me spoil it for you, it was some Supernatural at his best!

This series continues to be strong, and I still enjoy watching it despite not liking a few things, because the overall general feeling about it, or the episode, stays positive in the end.

I wasn’t too fond of the whole kid plot. Not the kids not being actual kids, that I liked and I thought it was all well done. In fact, I really liked how the plot with the mother locking her own kid in the car to have her to drawn was done. It was very well done in every way.

I’m talking about the one who happens to be very much like Dean, and could very well be Dean’s in fact. I know the mother claimed otherwise, but I wonder how many actually believed her ?

I didn’t liked it also because if the mother, ever since she had the kid, changed and did her best to raise him good, he shouldn’t behave so much like Dean. And because it was so obviously made to be that cliché. Yet, forced to admit, it was pretty cool to see Dean be around the kid and care for him. Or teach him how to “get his game back”, kicking-style.

So Dean was busy with his – or not – new family, meanwhile Sam wasn’t left waiting with nothing to do. He met the mysterious blond girl again, Ruby, and they had a few talks. First things first, I found it odd that Sam made no mention whatsoever about this to his brother. I mean after the first time, when she only revealed that there were some pretty weird things that happened to all the friends of their mother.

Both the brothers are interested in finding out who she is, or what is that knife that can kill demons. So when he meets her again, and verify that – as she said – all friends of their late mother were killed in odd circumstances, why would he not mention it at some point to his brother ? But I guess both brothers had to have their own private story with their own girl…

Oh and, turned out Ruby is actually a demon! That’s a cool move, and also a pretty convenient way to give them a possibility to save Dean’s life and soul. Not saying this is necessary a bad thing, but I think I wished they had kept the mystery surrounding her and the uncertainty of Dean’s destiny on for a little bit longer. Yet again, just because she wants to “help” Sam doesn’t mean she actually wants to help him, she might have a very different agenda of her own…
