Supernatural: I Know What You Did Last Summer

(S04E09) Maybe it gets old, because I feel like I might be saying this every week, but it just happens to be true : this show is awesome, and might be delivering its best season to date ! I’ve been watching the show ever since it premiered, and I always loved it, but things have evolved over time and the show isn’t like it used to be years ago. It almost feels now like Lost did, ever since the end-date had been set and writers could focus on where to bring the show, how they wanted it to end, as they knew exactly when this would be.
No such thing has been set for Supernatural, at least not officially, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the creative minds behind the show had their own date in mind, and knew exactly what would happen then, thus focusing on bringing is to that point. Because there’s this incredible sense of strength and confidence this season, especially in episodes such as this one where the whole mythology and overall story is at play, that makes everything feel so much better – and it was already pretty awesome to being with.
Forget the CSI and other Grey’s Anatomy, the real appointment television of Thursday nights, the very best you can find is without a doubt Supernatural, truly one of the best shows on TV right now. Alright, and now on to the actual episode…
We’ve been having fun last week, dealing with giant alco-holo-porno addict Teddy Bears, but now serious problems were back. Given the title of this episode, the first time we had a flashback I thought this was going to be a Sam-centric episode all in the past. Turns out it was not, and I’m really glad about that, not just because the mix we got worked really well, but also because a lot of very interesting things took place in the present, and I would have been pissed not to find out more about it.
This week we met with Anna, a lovely girl everyone thinks she’s been crazy, but she’s not, she just happens to sometimes hear what Angels are saying. We saw earlier this season that, as Castiel told Dean, those folks from above do not speak in ways that are understandable, or even comprehensible, for humans, but Anna somehow found a direct line and she can actually hear them and understand what they’re saying.
We had no explanation as to how or why she could do that, who or what she was, because I’m guessing this isn’t something any “normal” people can do. More importantly, this apparently isn’t something she’s supposed to do. That last scene was really brilliantly done, because as they started to gear up and feared that Hell would walk through those doors, when in fact it was revealed to be no other than Castiel and his bad-cop buddy Uriel, somehow we all got an instant feeling that it didn’t really made things good, something was sill wrong.
What I’m curious about is whether or not Castiel and Uriel are ready to fight the boys on that one, because they’re probably not willing to let them “take” Anna, and by that I mean kill her of course. Even if there’s a place in Heaven somewhere waiting for her, it just doesn’t seem right. Not too long ago we saw they had for orders to listen to Dean and do whatever it is he would told them to do, does that still apply ? And could they really fight the boys ? Because according to Anna and we have all the reasons in the world to believe her, all the Angels have been talking about are the brothers.
