South Park: Imaginationland

By fred | October 18, 2007

South Park(S11E10) After last week “special” episode, which was quite hilarious without a doubt but also featured very few of the boys, this week South Park is back to its “usual” setup, given that this show has one really.

What I mean by this is that all four three heroes are back on the show, along with a few others obviously. But apart from that, there was nothing usual about it, really. Or maybe that it was some classic South Park quality stuff, aka genius hilarious shit!

As we’ve seen when this season came back a couple of weeks ago, it is no indication of anything really, but as soon as I see their opening credits, I start to laugh. Really, how can you watched them and remember all those awesome classic episodes and not start laughing again at those great memories…

And soon, this episode will feature amongst them. Truth is, despite the return of the boys this episode was actually pretty special in his own way as well.

For starter, it’s the first part of the great trilogy already known and referred to all over the world as “Kyle Sucks Cartman’s Balls And I’m willing to say this episode will soon become a classic, and if the following ones are as great & funny as this one was, it might be the greatest trilogy of all times.

It opened in a very classic and simple way. The boys are in the forest, leading by Cartman, of course, trying to catch something. What is it? What did he saw a few times already and want to catch alive ? Nothing less than a leprechaun!

Why is it so important that he can prove them he saw one ? Because he has a signed contract that if he did see a leprechaun, Kyle will suck his balls, he has to. After a couple of calls to Token and Butters, err I mean Blackie and Faggot of course (hilarious codenames! You gotta love that fat ass!) something happens : a leprechaun shows up.

South Park“Cartman: Kyle, suck my balls!

Pure genius, especially because Kyle of course refuses to go for it, but the court will say otherwise and have him to suck his balls.

But that was just an introduction to a great parody of many war movies, as the boys are taken away to Imaginationland. The place where everything humans ever made up over the years live together. It has a very lovely feelings to it that reminded me of the famous Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” movie, so it’s no surprise to see, amongst the many many pop references all over the place, no other than Blue Meanie !

But that feeling didn’t last, as soon - just like the leprechaun tried to warn them - “terrorists attacked… our imagination“.

We then witness some great insides as some officials gather information on this “imaginary attack“. Overall this has to relate to a few things, starting with terrorists threatening people and wiling to hijack our imagination forbid anyone to draw Mohammed, as well as how the US government met the people from Hollywood in order to ensure than movies would be very patriotic.

After the earlier slowmo action scenes with a blurry, disconnected sound inspired directly from war movies such as Save Private Ryan, we were granted some more hilarity as military officials turns to Hollywood famous directors for ideas on how to fight terrorists, I mean imaginary ones, of course.

No I’m not forgetting those, but while The Simpsons were great and are still pretty funny - though not always - I honestly don’t think any of those others have been able to not only get that great & funny but also stay at such an high level for such a long time…

So yeah, really, I still fully agree with me :)
