South Park: Fatbeard

By fred | April 23, 2009

South Park(S13E07) There’s lots of different directions an episode of South Park can go, and for their mid-season finale – as new episodes aren’t expected until sometime around October now – they decided to go back to the basis. No comment on a recent political event or Randy going crazy, not that those can’t be hilarious, but this week we had a simple story of one boy, one fat kid and his craziness.

What better way to end the season than to have Cartman be Cartman, and, as Craig once commented, simply get the kids into another brand new crazy situation because he can’t just stop and say no, he has to go with whatever stupid plan he comes up with and push it too far, way too far, and of course involve as many people as he can, otherwise it wouldn’t be fun.

This time, Cartman just saw an opportunity of a lifetime as it was real, in our world and time: pirates are back. And when he wanted to go down to Somalia to become one of them pirates, of course Kyle just pushed him, encouraged him to go, because it was a great way to get ride of the fat ass. And the fact that Cartman could or probably would get killed was just a bonus — those kids are heartless.

But Cartman didn’t go alone, he got himself a little crew, including Butters of course but also Ike - whom I’m guessing could come along because he’s Canadian, and while that’s not the greatest thing to be, at least he’s not a Jew or a soul-less redhead kid. Oh yeah, Cartman was at his racist best, and of course the clash over differences between what he thought pirates are to be and what those Somalian pirates really were was predictable, but it didn’t make things any less fun.

While the pirates thought they were getting a ransom for some white kids, Cartman just got ride of the French crew – who surrendered instantly, of course, being French. Although I shall they, those pirates kids did have a lightsaber… – and brought back home the ship. Soon he was the leader of all pirates here, he was living the dream life. Then we had a little speech from one of the pirates to Butters & Ike that might have sounded a little forced, but I liked Ike’s “I feel like an asshole” too much to care.

One thing that also made me laugh, for some reason, is that people were talking three languages at some point : there were the Somalian pirates, Cartman and the other kids, and the French crew. All speaking in their own language, and magically they all managed to understand each other. I don’t know, it just made me laugh…

And of course, a perfect ending. “Alright boys remember, do not hit the white ones.

What did everybody else think?
