Scrubs: My Lawyer’s In Love

(S08E08) This season and for budget reason the entire cast isn’t feature in all episodes, even though they’ve so far always managed to work it and make use of secondary characters so well that you barely miss whoever isn’t featured that time, and often you’ll notice one or two of the main characters missing. But there’s one that has always been and is likely to always be there : JD.
It’s how the show works, and why with Braff leaving after this season it wouldn’t have been a good idea to continue the show furthermore, and it’s why JD is always there, even a little, because we’re getting this through his eyes (mostly). But this time, JD was a secondary player, he wasn’t even close to being one of the main characters.
No this week, it was all about Cox still adjusting to his new position and all that he has to do now, as well as Ted - but more on that in a moment. First off, let’s talk about Cox who, of course, tried to do everything. But here’s only so many hours in a day, and he simply cannot do it all. It took him a while to realize that he needed help, and to get others to do some of it for him, it actually took him to break a promise he made to a patient he cares about, and to forget to pick up his own son!
And Jack tricking his father (with the help of Jordan) was just great (”I’m alive!“). And if Cox still needs to work his new schedule, as he couldn’t get home in time to read a story to his son before he went to sleep, don’t think he can’t spend time with him, he obviously can. The giveaway? Jack was insulting JD’s son. This is the beginning of a dynamic between two families that’s going to last or generations to come… Great legacy here. Or not.
I liked that they didn’t keep the Kelso/Cox new friendship a secret longer, it’ll be more fun like that. Especially when Kelso loves to rub it in JD’s face like that. I don’t even believe that he & Cox went to see a romantic comedy together, but of course JD does, and his reaction was exactly what you expected it to be : just great.
If Cox has been seen siding with Kelso, this time we got another new alliance : JD, and the Janitor. Always fun to see Janitor make fun of JD, let’s hope for JD’s kid’s sake that Janitor doesn’t have a kid, or he’ll really suffer. So what could possibly have brought those two together ? Well, it was Ted of course. As hinted in the episode’s title, Ted met someone : Stephanie (the incredibly adorable Kate Micucci). And they do make a cute couple.
Not only that, but much like Ted, Stephanie loves to sing as well, and they do sound great together. I hope we’ll get to see more of Stephanie and Ted later on this season, because they worked really well together. And, if Janitor has his Lady, now that Ted is free from Kelso, why couldn’t he be happy a little? He does deserve it. One thing always great with Ted, is how Sam Lloyd manages to mix all kinds of emotions at once, being both sad, pathetic and confident in the most delightful ways.
Other stuff :
* Cox might not like Ted’s a capella band, but I do. However, singing “Don’t Fear The Reaper” to kids with cancer just doesn’t sound right, does it?
* Licked by Janitor.
* Among the many things Cox finally managed to do, was firing Ed. I’m not sure if we’ve seen the last of him, but I wouldn’t mind if it was the case. He’s always been annoying to me, plus at this point it wasn’t was laziness, he wasn’t even willing to try and fake being interested in becoming a doctor, and him getting fired was the only logical next step.
* Back on Stephanie: the song she was singing to the kids, much like the one she did in duet with Ted, are apparently songs by Kate Micucci herself, and if you liked them – how could you not? – be sure to head over youtube right now for more (including the original duet, actually called “F*ck You“) awesomeness. I highly recommend it, you’ll find plenty of songs by Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, both adorable, and their songs are just awesome. I’ve been going through all those videos for a little while now, and I just can’t seem to stop…
What did you think of this episode ? Who else wants to see Stephanie back ?
