Scrubs: My Happy Place

(S08E04) Sure there are rumors about another season, a ninth season of Scrubs that would go on without creator Bill Lawrence nor star Zach Braff among others, and probably focus on the new interns introduced this season (of which we still haven’t seen much, if at all for most of them, this week). But we all know that, as it is now and has always been so far, Scrubs is all about JD.
It was about him becoming a doctor, and the show continues to be narrated though his eyes and inner thoughts. JD is a central element of the show, and whether you like it or not his relationship with Elliot has also become a rather important part of it as well. And looking back it hasn’t always been handled in the best of ways, let’s be honest.
This episode’s key element was JD and Elliot’s relationship, and while they had been hanging out together about all the time, no one noticed anything. Not them, and not even their friends. It took no other than Kelso to confront them with the reality that they were basically dating again (”So basically you two do everything a normal couple does except to have sex ? – Exactly. – Sounds awesome.“)
And then, something great happened as both JD and Elliot decided to talk about it, and do so in a very adult way. It wasn’t time to good around and make jokes running away from things, they both proved how much they’ve grown and showed signs of maturity, as they discussed this completely and honestly. And as JD pointed out, they are not interested in stupid drama no more, they don’t want to relive the plotlines of Friends and the likes, no more drama. In the end Kelso found the simple words : Who cares what everybody else things, do whatever makes you happy.
And so Kelso was back at the hospital, not just because he’s got free muffins there but because he likes it, and while he might not ever admit it in public he cares about the people he’s tortured all those years, as illustrated by the fact that he noticed (and liked) that JD and Elliot were dating again. JD and Elliot who, in the end, decided not to make a big deal out of this either, and simply hold hands and admit to themselves that they were, indeed, together again.
Of course this season has a few advantages, like Elliot not being engaged and JD not having the mother of his child at home, but I liked that it played out so well and naturally, and I actually hope that the only reaction from Carla, Turk and the others be almost nothing, because they too noticed they spent all their time together and it did feel like the way it goes. Next time this should be addressed is probably by the season/series finale, as they get married and leave Sacred Hearts or something.
On another note, one thing that didn’t change from last episode to the one was how Dr Jan Itor was still the best one of the bunch. Loved him simply getting back to the hospital, hence getting his job back. Because that’s how things work for him : he shows up, Ted shows up and while he can’t smile – because it hurts when he does, poo r Ted – he’s happy about it, so much that he starts doing the Janitor’s work, while he ends up getting a pay check, maybe even a (nice) raise while at it. Sometimes life is just that simple!
Another know face this week was the Todd, and I have to say it is freaking hilarious to see how his brain works, or doesn’t work, I’m not sure. I mean, he just heard Cox speak to him two seconds before !! Amazing, just amazing. And when Turk let a soft “wow” out, The Todd hears it and sill doesn’t get it.
Yep, so far this new season is pretty awesome and hilarious. What did everybody else think of this episode ? Should JD and Elliot end up together in the end ?
