Scrubs: My Bad Too

By fred | April 11, 2008

Scrubs(S07E07) The here we go with the last of all returning sitcoms of the Thursday lineup, and a brand new episode of Scrubs. Of course I could say this about pretty much every show that’s missing at this moment, but much like with The Office I feel like it’s been an awfully long time since we got to see a new episode of Scrubs, I’m pretty sure the last time was back in 2007.

So I was waiting for it, because I love the show, and I am really happy to see the show finally make it back on the air. As you all know by now I would assume, this is one of the last episodes of the show, to air on NBC. The Peacock did not order any more episodes and Scrubs isn’t part of their schedule for next season, yes I hate NBC as well, but at least the show should be saved and have a final season on ABC. Nothing official, but it seems they’re shooting new episodes as we speak, and they’re not for NBC so…
When watching the last episode, I was sure this was going to be the very last season of the show. We all were, because that was the plan. Of course, writers’ strike and all, and now this might not actually be the last season, there might be another one. Still, those episodes NBC hold on to for so long were actually done before the strike, and so I was expecting them to be a continuation of what we had been getting last time.

But we did not. Or, I really felt like we did not get that. So far I was under the impression that the show was doing two main things : first, it was getting JD & Elliot to get closer and closer, to probably have them to end up together in the end. This didn’t change, they’re still hanging out with each others and rediscovering how they care about one another.

But it seems to me that they were also trying to bring JD to another level, to a different place, where he would stop being as childish and immature as he’s been for many years now, but have him to grow up a little. Because he’s now a father – yes, he actually has a child, that wasn’t a dream you had one time, long ago – and he needs to start acting as one.

But this time, it was back playing Space Invaders with Turk and the interns, it was back acting stupid like asking Elliot for advice and not listening to her and doing what is obviously a bad thing : giving hope to someone, guarantying him something you know you are not able to guarantee him. But apparently it doesn’t seem to matter, because JD isn’t a father, not really, and all of that had been forgotten, somehow.

This felt really weird to me, especially because this wasn’t written post-strike, with the knowledge that there would be another season. It felt a bit off, I’ll be honest.

As for everything else in this episode, well, I thought it was a good one, and it had some funny moments, but it wasn’t one of the best. The Space Invaders bit was a classic Scrubs thing you’d expect from a JD never growing up, his prank on Turk was a bit less expected, and not funny, but hey. Turk learning Spanish and not telling his wife, trusting Cox with that knowledge and ending up being screwed up over it was all quite predictable, but it worked.

The whole Amigoville dream-sequence on the other hand, was neither good or funny.

Eliot’s new humiliating story made me laugh, the Janitor, even though not around much, was true to himself – kidnapping his girlfriend’s parents to help her not fearing to loose loved ones (loved that Elliot found that touching by the way), and I really liked Cox stealing food from Bob, and not even just to mess with him. Or was it only to mess with him, and that’s why he stopped once he realized Bob wasn’t annoyed by it, but liked it actually ?

To have Bob take the cake back out from the trash to finish eating it at the end of the episode, though, wasn’t really funny.

Anyways, in the end this was a good episode, I liked it, but it was great, and felt a bit off to me.

One last thing: I don’t speak Spanish, but apparently here’s what Turk and Carla said by the end of the episode :
- How much you want to bet that in a couple of weeks, those two will be together again ?
- You think ? Well, not everyone is going to like that…
