Reaper: Business Casualty

(S02E12) At this moment the fate of the show is still uncertain, officially that is, but the show is pretty much dead. Which means that, unless a miracle occurs, next week will be the season finale, putting an end to the great adventures of Sam and his buddies trying to be smarter than the Devil. I’m not sure if the writers/producers of the show worked out something that could be a series finale, and provide a somewhat satisfying conclusion to the series or not at all, but let’s hope so.
Either way it was always an end, at least of the season, and something needed to happen. Now watching this episode, I’m starting to wonder if I might have things wrong, or if Sam and his friends are all just that.., well, stupid. I mean it’s not the first time they want to beat the Devil at his own game, and Sam has been around the guy for a while now, so he should know better.
As I’ve said before, I just can’t accept the idea that the Devil isn’t fully aware of what Sam is trying to do, with his dad in Hell and everything. It just doesn’t make any sort of sense to me, because he’s always listening to everything, and Sam never even tries to hide anything from him. Never does it make sure to be in a circle before discussing his latest idea, he just does that right in the very office the Devil provided him! Seriously, it’s like he wants him to know or something.
Which is why I am convinced that the Devil is fully aware of what’s going on, and playing Sam all along as he always does, because that is his favorite hobby : messing with Sam. Granted, I was feeling bad for Nina this week, because after that overly cute goodbye scene with Ben, discussing bath and shower and whatnot, I was sure she wasn’t coming back.
Just look at it: Sam gets a text from his dad, and needs a portal. Conveniently enough, the Devil just shows him one the next day, before Sam even has to start looking for a solution to his problem. Of course, you need a special card to get there, and not everybody get that privilege. So Sam does absolutely nothing and fails miserably his presentation, and bang: here’s your card, kiddo!
Are you kidding me!?? There is just no way this isn’t just all part of a bigger plan by out Evil friend, no way. And again, I can’t believe neither Sam nor anyone else even seem to consider this idea, or that when Sam is asked to give his card back even though he needs it to welcome Nina back, he just gives it away!! Like the dummy still hadn’t get it, that he got the promotion because they thought he killed someone, all he had to say was that he sure did kill the guy, but knew about the cameras and made it look like it was an accident, just in case the police would get involved or something.
But no, he gives it back. And when they go to steal it, those guys – all Work Bench employees shall I remind you, and who’ve never been afraid to steal things from there in the past – show up without anything but Ben’s “system” to open the lock, and that system did seem too efficient to me…
I liked this episode, the relationship between Sock and Ben made for some good laughs, even though we all knew she wouldn’t change a female Frankenstein Maggie and Sock had some fun moments there, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Nina back, but they need to get smarter fast, because the Devil is watching them, and whatever is going on is only happening because he wants it to happen.
What did everybody else think?
