Prison Break: The Art Of The Deal

By fred | February 19, 2008

Prison Break(S03E13) This is it, the last episode of Prison Break. Well, nothing has actually been officially decided for the future of the show, but as far as we know as of today, this was for sure the season finale, there won’t be any more episodes added (the show isn’t going back to production now that the writers’ strike is over). That doesn’t mean this is the end of everything, there could be a fourth season.

It could happen, should Fox renew it. It hasn’t been done yet, and this was without question the weakest season of the series so far, both in ratings as well as creatively – not that people at Fox were about that anyways. I won’t make any guesses, but don’t torture yourself over the unanswered questions you have, cause you may very well never get any answers.

And yes, there’s a few of those questions.

But I will tell you this, though : I think I’m okay with it. I am, and I think that overall this episode actually worked quite good as a both a season, and a series finale ! A frustrating one, obviously, since there’s plenty of stuff we still don’t know, but it did work nonetheless.

Let’s review things shall we : First we have McGrady, that kid Michael brought along in the escape, the kid whose father had a lucky guess when he took the boat and came to pick everyone up. His story is over, we don’t need anything anymore here. Truth be told, we didn’t need as much as we did, far from it. Last week it was already quite filler-ish, but this time it was pure filler crap 100% of the time. Road-block, they go through, his family is happy to see him back, he can play basketball with more than a wall, how incredibly boring was that ?

Then we got Sona. Yes, let’s go back in Sona for a bit. I’ve said it before, but none of those character matter to any of us anymore, we really didn’t need to see them anymore, but since we did at least we can be happy that it got some kind of closure on every story : Sucre ends up in Sona, of course. No one knows he’s in there, since he lied to Michael, so no one’s coming for him. He’ll do his time and maybe get out of there alive, although it was said no one ever does. But it was also said that no one can escape from Sona, and it turned out it was pretty simple to do it after all.

Prison BreakBellick and T-Bag, it’s about the same. They’re in, and if they can stay alive they’ll eventually get out. No, I don’t think T-Bag has got any plan to break out of Sona, all ah wanted was to kill Lechero, who was doomed anyway, but not before he put his hand on a nice pile of cash first. This wasn’t to pay off some guards and escape, but to ensure himself some wealthy future and, of course, buy his way around Sona.

Because obviously, people were going to go after Lechero and kill him. And T-Bag was next on the list, given how he used to always be by his side. So him making the announcement that Lechero was dead, pretty much implying that he killed him, and for him to hand out the money to everyone around, yelling how everyone’s equal, meant one thing first and foremost : I’m like you, I’m one of you, not one of them, them who treated you so badly and whom you who may seek revenge on.

So we can put Sona behind us and move on to other things as well.

    Hey,

Thanks for your comment. Well I never said I couldn’t see them doing a fourth season, just that AFAIC I think this episode worked nicely as a finale, and I don’t really see the need for more…

But that’s only me, I’m sure many people would love another season. Although at this point they could just make a new series, a spin-off called “Revenge: Michael Scofield vs The Company” ;) Really, does anyone care to find out what will happen to Bellick at this point??
