Prison Break: Shut Down

By fred | September 9, 2008

Prison Break(S04E03) Here we go again, after all the cards that Scylla is made out of, and something tells me we’re going to be looking for those for quite some time this season. Last week we had a big two-hour season premiere, or two episodes back to back, it’s about the same anyway when it comes to this show. Point is, we had two episodes, it was the big return of the show and the reintroduction of Sara as well, and maybe that’s because of it, and how it made no sense, but that didn’t really do it for me.

Doesn’t mean I won’t be watching, because Prison Break is one of those shows, even if you know it makes no sense and even when it sucks, it just kicks ass! Doesn’t matter how far they go, you keep coming back for more because it’s fun, because it’s well done, and because you want to find out what the Hell is going on and how this whole thing is going to end eventually.

Also, to me that episode was the best one of this season so far.

Granted, we’re only three episodes in so it might not be much of an accomplishment, but I mean to say that I felt improvement over last week’s episodes. Maybe it’s because last week they had to bring Sara back somehow, get the A-Team together, all of that, and this time they could dive in right away, I don’t know, but this one was better.

Actually, I’ve also been under the impression that one thing was missing so far, one thing that used to be there but wasn’t anymore : a sense of urgency, and some highly-tensed pressure like you couldn’t believe. It used to be that they were being watched over constantly, their every moves, and yet they had to break out or something. Not only that, but they had to go fast, otherwise people would die.

But this season, there isn’t really much of that. In fact, when Agent Self and his boys went after the A-Team, car chase ensuing and everything, I felt like this was a much needed thing : finally they’re being tracked, for real! Because it’s not Wyatt wasting time in a boring filler that will put any pressure on our boys, and it surely isn’t Self’s lame threats that will either.

I mean seriously, the guy has been working against The Company for years and years now, and he hadn’t even made it far enough to know that Scylla wasn’t one, but six cards. And when he finds out, like always, he just tries to pressure Michael into doing all the work, but making sure he only has one day ! “By the end of the day I want a second card, tomorrow a third one, and this week-end you better have all six of them. Next week you break in and bring The Company down, and on Sunday I want a pony. And don’t you forget the pony or else it’s back to prison, I’m warning you!!”

Seriously, dude, it’s not their fault you suck at your job! They did more in one day you did in how many years ?? No really, what’s wrong with this guy ? By the way, I thought you couldn’t trust no one and this was to be a highly classified operation that no one knew about ? So why he is yelling to his boss about what Scofield did do already, and what he’ll do next ? Why sending so many agents to the warehouse they’re secretly hiding if there’s such a high security risk ? Good thing Wyatt is wasting way too much time somewhere else otherwise they’d be screwed.
