Prison Break: Scylla + Breaking And Entering [season premiere]

By fred | September 2, 2008

Prison Break(S04E01+E02) The big thing of the night, the thing we were all waiting for, despite being fully aware of the fact that, yes, it would make no sense whatsoever : the Prison Break return! The show that was once great and had a fantastic first season that should probably had remained the only season ever was back for, that’s right, its fourth season !!

Needless to say that much in another Fox’s action-packed hit-drama, 24, if you’re still watching this show you have to agree to let go lots of things like common sense, otherwise that won’t cut it. But the fact and the matter is, despite all of this ridiculousness we have to be willing to take from this show, it’s still fun to watch.

Oh yeah, it is, and despite all that’s coming in the following review, I had a good time watching this two-hour season premiere. Now that we’re done with that, about the actual episode and first things first, what we all knew was coming despite everything, the return of Sara !

Now, I’ve said from the minute I heard the news how ludicrous this whole thing was and how there was no way it could make sense, and despite their attempt to address some of those issues, it still doesn’t make any sense. Because Linc did see her head FFS! And it hadn’t been burned or anything, so if it wasn’t her, he should have known, even without taking it out. (By the way where did they find a look-alike girl ? Did they kill her ? Who cares ?)

But LJ didn’t say he “only heard” Sara’s beheading, he said it happened right in front of him, he heard her scream and chose not to look and tried to close his eyes, but they were held hostage together, and it happened in front of him, so no this doesn’t make no sense whatsoever. But we knew that already, so let’s talk about what makes even less sense in this entire mess : that Michael actually believed Gretchen when she claimed Sara was still alive !!!

Are you kidding me?? Now that had to sound like the most insulting and stupid thing ever to be said, and whether or not this was true, which it couldn’t be, didn’t even matter anyway : He was pissed, he was revengeful, he had been tracking her for a long time and now he had to kill her, plain & simple. And it’s not like she or Whistler are innocent anyways, they did kidnap LJ & Sara to pressure Michael into working for her, try to have them killed, she deserved to die, him probably as well, we didn’t care about him anyways.

Not to mention that if Sara is alive because she escaped, it’s got nothing to do with Gretchen : she did not not kill Sara, Sara escaped, that’s really not the same. Plus, if she escaped, how the Hell would she know where to find Sara now ? Michael didn’t need her or The Company’s help to find Sara at that point. He never has, always they needed him, not the other way around, and this was not any different. That he would believe it is stupid, that he would let her go and be left hanging with nothing at all is retarded.

But yes, I’m like lots of people and I’ll admit I was glad to see her back, so I was willing to try to forget about the past, what had supposedly happened, or not happened, and just move on. Thing is, they make that quite hard to do, when they had another level of ridiculousness to all of this : Sara is not the same, she went through a tough time, because as it turns out now, she also was tortured now!

Oh God, give me a break. Clearly they didn’t want to just bring Sara back, they wanted a “new” Sara also, but that’s just too much. Seriously, they have to stop with the BS at some point. Sara was never any interest to The Company, she was a way to get to Michael, she was leverage to ensure he would do what was asked of him, she had no information to spill out or nothing, there was absolutely no reason for her to be tortured.

There’s a reason this hadn’t been mentioned before either : it wasn’t there, didn’t happen. It makes no sense that Gretchen would torture her just for fun, while she’s supposed to work with Linc and make sure everything goes according to plan in Sona, which it did not. Plus, what was to happen if Michael had done all that he had to do and everything went down flawlessly ?? “Okay, you did your part of the deal, we do ours : here’s LJ and Sara. Oh and by the way, I tortured her cause, you know, I was bored. Oh and also, I opened up LJ and ate his heart, hope that’s not a problem… you’ll have to carry him out of the car though, he obviously can’t move on its own now.”

Well, i´m in for this fourth season!
i thought this would be a terrible crap, but comparing it to the third season, this was really good fun!
And despite all of the ridiculous things you mention, you are maybe forgeting the first objetive of a show, and that is entertainment ;-)
And let me tell you, my dear fred :), for me this was REALLY good entertainment and it left me looking forward for the next episode.
Its surprising, but hey… Isn´t it cool to see this weird gang together? So, as michael scofield said to the agent Self: I´m in !

Hey Nikkito, nice to hear from you again :)

And let me first assure you: no, I did not forget this is first entertainment, and it’s because of that and because this is PB that I was willing to forget about that whole “Sara coming back from the dead” thing, which clearly made no sense…

But as I said, so far for me I’m not really into this season (yet?). Thinking about it, it might also be that I feel it’s missing a sense of urgency and pressure that was present in past season.

It used to be that had an end date, they had to do something before it’s too late, but they were constantly being watched over (or chased), thus making things quite harder.

So far, I’ve pretty been under the impression that they have their own secure place, they can take their time, think things through calmly, and they’re not watched over or tracked (I know this isn’t exactly true, but it does feel that way).

I don’t know, maybe things will change with the next episodes, but so far I’m not sold — though I’m not dropping that easily ;)
