Prison Break: Eagles And Angels

By fred | September 16, 2008

Prison Break(S04E04) I have said in the past that I wasn’t really that into this new season of Prison Break, not just because it didn’t make sense, cause we’ve gotten used to be that by now, and I was even willing to forget about the whole “Sara’s not dead after all” incident, and just try and enjoy this new season of whatever writers had come up this time.

But that’s where the problem lies : what they did come up with this season, doesn’t really do it for me. It doesn’t work, I’m not a fan of the A-Team, and let’s be honest, it really doesn’t make no sense at all. No I mean, take this episode for instance : you look at it, what happens, what they do, and then you just wonder : do writers even care/try anymore ?

Okay, so where do we start ? With Sara who has been brought back as a publicity stunt but without much thoughts into it, so now they don’t know what to do with her and we’re left with this crappy stuff ? I mean, back to her old demons and hitting the bottle because of what ? Some guy died ?? Okay, so he was not some guy, he was like a father to her.

Still, in the past few years she’s seen plenty of people dying all around her, like her actual father, she’s been wrongly accused, people tried to kill her, repeatedly, she’s been shot at, almost drowned, she was kidnapped, tortured even, but all of that is just fine. But kill Bruce, and then she’s got to hit the bar! Seriously!?

Then we have the main plot of this week’s episode, the new card holder, Lisa. What is the fantastic plan Michael came up with ? They show up at a charity event, Eagles And Angels, which just so happens to be all about cops and – therefore – the place is filled with cops all over the place. All the cops are here, and in the middle of it come Michael, Linc, and Mahone.

For those of you who didn’t follow, that is two dangerous criminals whose heads were plastered on every possible headlines all over TV, newspapers, everywhere, for months, who were on the most-wanted lists for a bit, just walk in a room filled with cops, and not one single person recognizes them. Even better, it’s filled with employees of The Company, a company for which Mahone did work for before he betrayed them by the way, and yet no one notices a thing.

Oh yeah, one guy, one single guy does, and that’s it. An important member of The Company, the card-holder herself, stands face to face with Michael – that one guy who’s been The Company’s obsession for years now – for a couple of minutes, and she doesn’t recognize him either.

Seriously, if you want to have fun watching the show, please check your brains at the door before you walk in, because clearly writers don’t even try no more! Not to mention how that stupid copying-device is ruining things : I’ve said before I was missing something, a sense that they were on the spot, watched over, tracked down, pressured, etc

But now all they need to do is get some cards. Read: they need to stand next to some guys for a couple of minutes each, that’s it. Wow, how boring is that? By the way, couldn’t Self have simply showed up here ? Since he’s FBI it’s more understandable he’d be there than some convicts on the run, and he probably could manage to stand next to Lisa for two minutes without looking too weird or nothing.

In other words, not only was the plan ludicrously unbelievable, but it wasn’t even required in the first place.

Speaking of: I loved how they showed us last week, in this week in the recap, how Bruce got quite drugged before getting shot in the back of his head. And now the police thinks it was suicide! Of course they do, just like that guy who stabbed himself in the back, cut himself into pieces and thrown himself into four different garbage cans, yeah that guy really wanted to kill himself…

And really, the result of all that is that while it made me laughs to see T-Bag just standing there in the middle of the place where Linc & co were having coffee or something, I couldn’t care less, it bores me. I just don’t care why is Rolland holding back on what he got for Lisa’s phone, or who’s the next cardholder, or what’s up with that Chinese guy, or how all of a sudden all the mysterious “clues” in the bird book are completely obvious and useless, or what will happen next to Gretchen…

A very disappointing episode of an already disappointing season. Really, if they want to get people to stick around for entire season, they need to pay a little more attention to details huge obvious plot holes, and find a way to create back some tension and pressure for the boys…
