My Name Is Earl: Stole An RV

By fred | October 3, 2008

My Name Is Earl(S04E04) And the show continues… as disappointed as I may have been after last week’s two installments of My Name Is Earl, it’s all forgotten now that the show is really back. And it is, as the two episode we got this week were both really funny. I won’t say some of the stories featured were somewhat hard to believe maybe, with a tendency to go in full silliness mode more than once, but who the Hell cares!?

That’s what’s so great about this show, that every character in there is crazy in his own way, that about anything & everything can happen, and usually does. This episode also maybe a more traditional episode than the last ones, as this time it really featured both Earl & Randy working together to cross someone off of Earl’s list.

Which means first, we go back to bad Earl to see what Earl did that deserves to be fixed. This time, it was when the kids had been “mistakenly” taken away by Child Protective Services, and so of course as any parents would do, Earl & Joy used the occasion to go on a trip. They stole an RV (while the guy was still on the roof!) and decided this would be their new lifestyle.

Things didn’t last long because Randy kinda blew it all away, for the first explosion of this episode. Meet Jerry, owner of the RV who’s now been sitting there doing nothing but waiting for death to come along. I suppose he was still eating something every once in a while, so not that strong a will to die I would say, but that’s not the point. The point is, while Randy was fine with beating the poor guy to death, Earl decided to bring him all of this old stuff back and slowly brought him back to life.

Typical working-the-list stuff, and then, while everything seemed to be fine, Jerry happy again and on his way to to meet with an old buddy of his, it turned out that he was a killing machine with a vengeance, and he wasn’t here just to say hello but to take the guy’s ear. Or, his other ear, as he already took the first one back during the war, and he and Joe’s ear had become friends or something. A fight to the death then followed, until the two old pals put too much pressure on their hearts and finally become friends again. Crazy enough, this worked pretty nicely.

Meanwhile, Joy was out to capture a mystical gigantic pig. This story was quite crazy, but it worked because they didn’t push things too far, because Joy is always crazy and that’s always funny, and because that thing was really huge. Also: “Oh My God! Oh My God!! Darnell, I’m in the pig! I’m in the pig!!This just made me laugh out loud!

In the end this was another pretty funny episode, ending with yet another explosion to get ride of the monster Joy inadvertently killed, and even Randy and his hats’ personalities worked because, with everything else that was already packed into this episode, none of those story was dragged on for too long.

One last thing I already wanted to mention before, is the music. It seems that something changed there, because so far this season – and I think that’s true for all four episodes – there was always a very nice use of the music as well as a pretty good selection. I don’t know if this is going to be a new thing this season or not, but I hope it is, cause I do like it.
