My Name Is Earl: Killerball

By fred | April 27, 2008

My Name Is Earl(S03E18) So, Thursdays are back being the biggest night on television, and last Thursday had a lot to offer. One of the comedies on that night was My Name Is Earl, but I hadn’t had a chance to watch it then. After that I have to admit I spend some time not really watching anything, and it’s not before today that I (finally) got to see the latest episode of Earl in his coma.

I might add that if this plot had been over already, I might have watched this 24 hours sooner, but it was still going last time and I never really liked it, so maybe I wasn’t so excited about the new episode, fearing that The Hickeys might come back…

I’ve no watched the episode, and, well, I was right : that stupid crap as back. So again, we had to endure another half-episode of Earl, while the other half was filled with this unfunny crap and those old jokes, and clearly much like the whole prison thing back when the season started, this was another idea that may have sound good at first, but turned out to be a real mess and should have never ever lasted so long !

I will add also that having Alyssa Milano to guest on the show was a pretty good thing, and it could have resulted in great stuff I’m sure, but what a waste that was to reduce her into such a crappy role that wasn’t, in fact, part of the actual show. She didn’t get to be a guest in My Name Is Earl, only in The Hickeys, and make no mistake, while I like the former, the later is a show that should never have found its way to the air.

Other than that, what to say about this episode… once more Catalina was nowhere to be seen, and God knows it’s always nice to see her, and while Randy was in charge of Earl now, questions arise : how did he managed all this time to sleep and eat, having no home and no one to watch over him ? We saw him take care of Earl’s private parts, where was that ? How did he find a place, how did he pay for it ?

Also, since when is Joy the voice of reason !?? If that’s not a sign of the apocalypse, it surely is one that the show isn’t really in a good place. At least we had a few flashbacks of bad Earl, and that game Earl participated in, though he wasn’t really aware of it, had some fun moments. The best one of all being, obviously, that all Earl needed to wake up from his coma was to be knocked on the head.

Now maybe we will finally be able to get back to she show, although I suspect that it will take a while for Earl to get a situation back, and then there’s Billie, cause Earl’s not gay and I’m sure he’ll have to try to get Billie to wake up from her coma as well, probably by knowing her on the head or something, and we really don’t have much time left this season.

A season that had its moments, some pretty funny, hilarious even, but overall it was the weakest season of the show, and one that I find to be incredibly disappointing so far. Let’s hope it’ll end on a high note, and I will cross my fingers the writers won’t try to make up some new place to lock Earl and the show in for way too long.
