Lost: What if… Claire & Jin will die soon, Sawyer will leave the Island !

By fred | May 7, 2008

LostLost is not your regular TV show. As any fan will tell you, it is so much more than just a TV show, and even if you’re not completely obsessed with it, even if you don’t spend hours watching each and every episode frame by frame just in case you missed something, there’s one thing every viewer of the show will agree : you do not watch an episode, turn off the TV and move on to something else.

It sticks with you, and even if you’re not ready to write a book about your big theory that could explain everything that’s going on in Lost, you have thoughts, theories, ideas, and questions. Lots and lots of questions. But those questions, and trying to come up with answers, theories, anything that could make sense, is part of the great experience of watching Lost, it’s what makes this show so unique.

Today, I want to talk about one of those theories, or ideas. It’s a funny thing, because I’m not sure I really believe in it, but I thought of it, and it’s been on my mind ever since, and I just have to share it with you, so you can all call me crazy, or – who knows – go crazy yourself and wonder, too, what if it wasn’t that crazy…

First, let’s rewind a little. Back when last season was ending, during the first-ever flash-forward in Through The Looking Glass, we saw Jack and Kate talk as planes were passing by over their heads, and at that time Kate didn’t seem to be willing to meet with Jack, she didn’t really want anything to do with him. And if she eventually agreed to come by and talk, she didn’t like it, and pretty much asked Jack – whom she probably considered to have lost his mind by then, much like Hurley did – to leave her alone.

And at one point she mentioned how she had to leave, because, as she said, “he’s gonna be wondering where I am“. We all wondered who “he” was, Sawyer ? Kate’s own child ? Then later we found out about Oceanic Six, and how Aaron was one of them, and living with Kate as his mother. At this point it became obvious who “he” was, it was Aaron she was talking about. Of course, so we know who “he” is, right, but what if we were wrong ?

Alright, so here’s the thing : I was re-watching the latest episode, Something Nice Back Home, and when Kate said she was doing a favor for Sawyer, I just had a crazy thought. Because the thing is, she didn’t say his name, not at first. First, she said for “him”, like it was obvious who “he” was, because who else could it be, than Sawyer.

LostAnd right when she said that, I heard her say how “he” would be wondering where she was, and I just thought : what if those two “he” were the same person, what if she meant Sawyer, both times.

Now before you go away, I know, I know. I know he’s not part of the O6, I know it doesn’t make any sense, and of course I know there’s Aaron in the picture. I know all that, this is why I’m not sure I’m even believing in this crazy idea, but the thing is, she did say “he” both times, like it was obvious. And I fully realize that, knowing she’s taking care of Aaron, it seems to be that the obvious choice then would be Aaron.

But we now know that Sawyer stayed on the Island by choice, that he was still alive when others decided to leave and become famous as the O6. As I mentioned during my review, I think it’s clear it was the biggest reveal of the episode : that some chose to stay on the Island. Of course, it means that chances are very high for both Claire and Sun that they might die very soon, as in before the O6 actually leave the Island.
