Lost: What do you think of Charlotte ?

By fred | February 14, 2008

LostNow that we’ve had multiple reports about what will happen to Lost and to this season now that the strike is over, we now how many episodes are coming, when and how, so let’s focus back on what’s important : the show itself.

Tonight is the big night, the night Lost is on, and I can’t wait to see this new episode. But before that, I’ve been willing to mention a few more things about the newcomers to the island, and most specifically one of them, Charlotte, but I’ve failed to do it so far, and if there’s a time to fix this, it’s now or never.

But right before, I just want to mention the opening of the episode, and the “flashback” during which the wreckage of “Flight 815″ was discovered. It seems that some people have been having problems with this scene, because it didn’t involved anyone from the Island and, as such, they felt it was some kind of a narrative cheat, as it did not relied on perspectives from any of the characters.

The same can be said about the scene between Naomi and Abbaddon, since she is dead and he is not on the Island, unless he’s the smoke monster or course. I just want to say that I don’t really get this, because (a) we could just see this as not a flashback but part of one, or more, flashbacks. After all, what we saw there was what at least two of the new comers saw on TV later on, kind of. And (b) it’s not the first time we get to see a scene involving no characters from the Island, don’t you remember the last scene of the season two finale ? Those two guys were not from the Island, and neither is Penny for that matter.

Anyways, let’s talk about Charlotte.

Of all the Freighties, I think Charlotte is the one who might be the most aware of what’s going on, of why they’re here and why. It’s obvious that Dan doesn’t seem to be any threat, and it definitely not look like an act, although this is Lost and I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that it was, in fact, an act. Thought to be honest, I don’t think so.

Frank know a lot about the plane, Flight 815, if only because he used to work for Oceanic and was supposed to be flying that one, but he doesn’t appear – to me – as being linked to Dharma, The Maxwell Group, or whoever is behind this whole thing. Though it’s probably all the same : Dharma, Maxwell Group, Oceanic Airlines, all this might be just companies all owned by the same people or organization.

And if Miles appeared to be taking things in charge, and was pretty pissed when he mentioned Ben for some reason, I don’t see him as the leader, not the real one. Maybe he has some personal issues with Ben, maybe he was just told things about the guy and is very sensitive, after all he’s communicating with dead people so he doesn’t have the same sensibility as anyone else. But I tend to think he was brought in for money, he was contracted, nothing more.

But Charlotte, she is hiding something, she knows more, and while Naomi was obviously the one to be in charged, the one who knew a lot more about everything, so of course she had to die (though that doesn’t seem to stop Miles from talking to her), I’m sure Charlotte knows a lot as well. Back during her flashback, she wasn’t the least surprised to find the skeleton of a polar bear in the middle of the desert in Tunisia.

More than that, she was expecting it to be there, and to have apparently been there for a while. Not only that, but she knew that if it was a polar bear, in digging a little around the neck she’ll find a new Dharma logo. And that wasn’t just something she knew, but also something she had already seen before. She might not be working for Dharma, but tracking them and whatever they did, that resulted in a polar bear being right here.

    Hi,

Please do a better job of editing your writing. There are so many typos that your writing is difficult to read.

I appreciate what you’re doing with your reviews and the time involved, but the effort is wasted if the reader cannot understand what you’re attempting to communicate.

    Thanks!

hey brian, how many times have you wrote here to say how much you liked a review or to thank fred for taking his time to make his awesome job?? Your request is stupid, i always read this guy and he makes no mistakes. And if it occurs that he did it´s never a problem to understand what he meant.
sorry mate, i just think you just want to bother someone by coming here to say all this nonsense.
And in my honest opinion and with full respect, if you cannot understand this reviews, maybe you could consider to check your if your brain it´s working at full speed. Maybe you are a bit slow.

    Cheers!

Easy guys, no need to fight! ;)

I know I make errors and typos, I try to avoid them as much as I can, but even when I go over what I wrote before publishing it I tend to sometimes read more what I meant than what I actually wrote. Along with not having english as a mother tongue, I’m sure there are mistakes, but I try my best and I’ll fix them when I’ll spot them.

Now, what about Charlotte ? :)
