Lost: The Incident, Part I and II [season finale]

By fred | May 14, 2009

Lost(S05E16-E17) This is it, the last season finale the show will ever do, the last episode we’ll have to watch & rehash over and over again for months until we finally get to enter what will be the final season of a show that is without a doubt one of the best thing on television. Maybe this episode didn’t end with a mind-blowing twist as did some of the previous seasons, but it doesn’t mean much.

Doesn’t, because it still was mind-blowing, it was fantastic and, again, it changes everything. What’s funny about it this time, though, is that we also have to ask what does it actually change, and how? They manage to shake everything and then leave us hanging without any clues about what could possibly come next. Next season could pretty much go in a million different directions, but one thing we know is that we’ve finally arrived, we’re talking about what is really going on on the show!

For a long time I’ve felt that we had no clue of what Lost was all about. One thing for sure was that it was not about a plane crashing on an Island. Of course, that is how it all started for us, that was our introduction to the show, but also a distraction. Because there were those people, and they wanted to know who else was on the Island, and they wanted to leave, then they did and they had to come back, which wasn’t done without messing with time.

But that’s not what the show is about, not really. There was something going on on this Island, for much longer than we ever imagined, and Flight 815 and our group of Losties just came in the middle of it. With this episode, we finally got a glimpse at the bigger picture, at what was/is going on for real, and the best part about it? With all that we learned, we know even less than before!

I’m not sure I understand everything correctly, but here’s what I have. There’s Jacob, and this other guy whose name remains unknown. It seems clear that if there’s a war, it is between the two of them, and NotJacob surely wants to kill Jacob, but he can’t. He can’t because there are rules, probably from the blessed place that is the Island, rules that can’t be broken.

LostAt this point, one would be inclined to say Jacob is white, God, the good guy, and his friend is black, Evil, the bad guy. Jacob loves Man, and believes they are worth the Island, and its special properties. That’s why he’s bringing people to the Island, he is testing them, and when they prove to be special and worthy, he can grant them things like, well, I don’t want to say immortality as they seem to be mortal, but they don’t age.

I’m guessing that boat we saw, that was the Black Rock and Ricardos, now Richard, was on board. Because he proved to be worthy, Jacob “made him” the way he now is, and while it’s unclear what it is, he does not age. NotJacob isn’t really into Man on the other hand, “They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.” While Jacob thinks that’s only a learning path – “It only ends once. Anything that happens before that, it’s just progress.” – NotJacob doesn’t share the same view on things.

I think it was not Jacob in the cabin, but EvilJacob. The ashes around the cabin kept him from breaking out or something like that. But he could change his appearance (Christian/Claire) in the cabin. Somebody broke the ashcircle and he could go free.
The loophole is Ben/Loke. They were manipulated by EvilJacob who posed as Jacob in the cabin. He ignored/manipulated Ben over the years (which was apperantly the reason why he killed Jacob) and also the real Loke who was led in a trap that he had to die and bring everyone back to the island. This ensures that his body is braught back to the island. So Eviljacob could take his appearance (he can take these from dead people as it seems = christian, claire, ben’s daughter). He needed to be the leader of the others for something (maybe to find jacob as only richard knows where he is and to get someone to kill him which would be Ben and he could only influence him as leader).

Ilena went there first because she probably knew that EvilJacob was there and to kill/ask him?(not sure on that) She drew her weapon when she entered the room. She works for Jacob.

Widmore is probably on the side of Jacob because he was the leader of the others and talked to him. and Ben on the side of EvilJacob, but Ben doesnt know that because he was manipulated by EvilJacob to think that he works for Jacob.
    well my 2 cent.
    like ur blog btw
