Lost: Namaste

(S05E09) So far this season of Lost has been pretty fantastic, and the show has clearly evolved not only in the ways the different stories are tell, but also in what they’re all about. What’s so great about this season, is that with everything that took place recently, and because of how much things have changed for our characters, they’re able to do what they did tonight : come up with what is mostly an episode whose only purpose to to get people into places, set them up for what’s coming next, and yet it’s thrilling.
What we reached with this episode, is a point where things will have to change on the show. Let’s face it, so far we still have no idea what the Hell this show is about, what is really going on. It used to be about people crashing on a mysterious Island, but then if soon moved on to Others in the jungle, people trying to leave and having to come back… but in the end, the show is about something else, something opposing Ben & Widmore, something we still have no idea of.
And as Kate asked, what now? Sure, it was pretty awesome to see Jack, Kate & Hurley meet with their old buddies, realize they traveled back to time and all that — and, as usual, thank God for Hurley to convey everyone’s feeling, from the amazement to Jin’s now perfect English, to the expected “uh, what?” when he heard about the year they were now in.
Of course it was great to see them struggle to be accepted, and you had to love Jack’s new job (maybe chosen on purpose by Sawyer – BTW, made me laugh to see Hurley was a Chef, that just sounds right, doesn’t it? And same goes for Kate, who works for the Motor Pool), or how when Kate’s name wasn’t on the list, we all wondered whether Juliet might have been doing that on purpose, considering getting ride of her somehow. Kate was clearly the first (if not only) thing on her mind when Sawyer told her they were back!
It is true that we don’t know how Sayid will get out of his cage, and whether or not he might escape – with a little from Ben – and join the Others. But Sawyer won’t stay happy for long. His argument with Jack, putting him back where he belong, telling him that he was now the great leader Jack always dreamed of being, the one he always wanted to be, thought he was, but never actually managed to be.
But Sawyer has it too good, he’s got a good life, a nice job, things are going well, he’s in charge, and happily in love with gorgeous Juliet. He has to lose it, that’s just how it works. Desmond & Penny are still happy, and that’s kind of a miracle, and you just can’t have two of them — I’m not sure you can even have one on this show! When Jack, because it always comes from him, when Jack asked where James LaFleur’s house was, that was the beginning on the end.
