Lost: Eggtown

(S04E04) Holy frigging crap, I love this show! This episode was once again pretty amazing, and it started right away, there was no “Previously on Lost” this time, and honestly I will admit, I kinda missed it. (Usually) I don’t like those “Previously” clips, not for this show but for any show, for every one of them. I just don’t like that, and for Lost things are no different.
Well, only they are. I don’t really care for the actual recap clips, that I don’t like, but there’s one thing I find myself quite fond of, three words I really like to hear. It’s not the words, but the voice, the tone, the way they’re said. Every week I sit down, and when I hear those three word, “Previously, On Lost“, then I know I’m in for another hour of fantastic questions and mind-blowing confusion.
So, yeah, I missed those a little. But I just said them out loud myself, and somehow it worked, I got the same amazing hour I usually get. With me now, make sure to hear it in your head, “Previously…”
This episode started right away, with Locke. Locke waking up and doing some cooking. It’s not the first time we got that new feeling, but I’ve yet to mention it and this time it was more obvious than ever before : Locke and his team and now completely turned into Ben and the Others. Look back at the way they “welcomed” a newcomer to the Island, Charlotte.
They get suspicious, they don’t want to answer her questions, Locke even made Hurley stopped when he started to talk. It’s all very secretive and mysterious. And then, they make her hostage, they won’t let her go willingly, because unlike what you’d expect from people lost on such an Island : no, they do not want to be found.
They looking nothing like survivors of a plane crash, not with their secrets, their weapons, their prisoners, and their own little village in the middle of the Island ! Now Locke is doing some cooking, and meanwhile people have all found their new home into nice little houses with water, electricity, TV even ! Granted, the TV looked pretty old and probably didn’t had any reception and could only play VHS, but at this point you almost have to wonder : did they even try to get any channel on that TV ?
I could totally see Hurley just putting it on, and seeing the tapes starting to play one, not even wondering if it could be used to get any signal. Just like Claire and Kate were just hanging out, doing some laundry, and talking about this and that, nothing really. They were not wondering about the people coming from the boat, whether they were good or bad, they were not worried, not curious about what could be going on back to the Beach. No, nothing like that. At this point, we’re probably only a few days from a new “Book Club” to be initiated…
And just like with the Others, Ben Locke is running things, and he decides what goes and what doesn’t. Kate may want to talk to Miles, but she isn’t allowed to. And since she broke the rules, she will have to leave. Things have changed, they have evolved, or so it seems.
Even Ben was amused by this situation, where he once again finds himself captive in some hatch, with John questioning him, questioning his own faith, and looking for answers. Locke may be running things on the outside, but the truth is nothing’s changed : Ben is still the mastermind here. And the absolute proof of that, is that Locke has not evolved, not has no clue of what to do next, he’s desperately looking for new instructions, but he can’t get anything from anyone. Meanwhile, Ben is still able to see right through him, and to affect him.
Locke couldn’t even walk a few more steps before smashing the plate, he couldn’t take it anymore, and what he did offer Ben on a plate is yet another mind victory. Just as Sawyer warned him back in the jungle, Ben is already at work, looking to get things fully back in control, and it is working for him.
