Life: The Business Of Miracles

By fred | October 7, 2008

Charlie had a lot on his plate this week. He pulled over and asked his ex-wife’s husband if he could sleep with her, just like that. Only him to do that, and by the way I loved the way he took that punch, and then fall down. And while getting punched in the face or high and seeing his ex-wife literally everywhere, he also managed to hear from a new mysterious man, above Jack, part of the conspiracy. What I didn’t really understood from this, was why Jack said that as long as he had the girl, he had Crews ? What did he mean by that ? And more importantly, how does the fact that Charlie actually has her changes that ?

LifeThe most shocking thing of all though, came from Constance. We know she heard Kyle Hollis confess taking orders from Jack Reese, we saw it last season. And while not shocking that after coming to Ted, they’d come to her, what was more shocking was that Constance just went with it. I know she wanted to get away from Charlie and all, but she used to be very close with him. More importantly, Charlie didn’t know many people, and there was even fewer people he could actually talk to and really trust.

Even Dani isn’t one of them, not that he can’t trust her, but they don’t share all kind of “secrets”, they don’t talk about the conspiracy, they are not there yet. So, along with Ted, Constance was the only person Charlie could really turn to and trust, that’s why he even called her in the first place. To see her turning her back on Charlie like that was kinda shocking, I thought, though if it means we get ride of her I guess I’m fine with it.

This week’s case was good, nothing special but your typical unusual case you expect from this show, focusing once again more of the characters than the facts. The only thing that did bother me, was that they both actually believed that it was the janitor. I mean come on, it makes no sense whatsoever : had he been caught stealing pills, he would have been fired. No way in Hell the scientist would have stayed quiet on that way (especially when you know he really wasn’t a nice person…) and the way he was killed meant something long planned and thought-out, not done on impulse.

If he had been caught, he would have been fired right away and thrown out of the building, not allowed to stay around in the lab so he could switch oxygen and liquid nitrogen. Not to mention if would have had to know what to do to kill a man that way.

What do you think ? Was this episode not as good as the previous ones ? Or, was it not as close to what they show used to be as he first ones were ? Did you still enjoyed it ? Is Dani’s new look bothering you as much as it does me, or are you fine with it ? Are you too getting more used to Tidwell ?

Okay, just a few quotes because I can’t resist :

Scientist: Someone switched the tanks, so when he put on that mask, he was inhaling pure liquid nitrogen.
Charlie: Maybe it preserved him. Maybe they can bring him back. Maybe he can tell us what he saw!

Dani: Front door was open.
Billy: It doesn’t have a lock.
Charlie: Noticed that.
Billy: Betsy doesn’t believe in locks.
Charlie: Who’s Betsy ?
Billy: Who are you ?
Dani: We’re the police.
Charlie: Who’s Betsy ?
Billy: Are you just allowed to walk in ?
Charlie: Door was opened, didn’t have a lock. Who’s Betsy ?
Dani: This time he answers the question.
Billy: Wow! She’s an aggressive female.

Dani: They’re wearing people.
Charlie: Just dead people!

Tidwell: Who do yo like ? (Dani stares at him, perplexed.) For the killing.
Dani: Oh, uh… well the researcher she had means. And the Animal’s right had motivations.
Tidwell: Married ? (Another stare.) The dead guy, was he married ?
Charlie: No!
Tidwell: Then the assistant is your killer. Human nature, men and women working together always end up banging. And most people are killed by the person they’re banging.
Dani: Well that’s just not true.
Tidwell: Yeah it is, it’s a fact. Come on, Crews, back me up on this.
Charlie: You two work together, when you have sex, who’s gonna kill who ? [Notice if didn't say "if" ? hmm... I'm not sure I like that.]
Dani: If I have sex with him you’re gonna kill me immediately!
Charlie: She’s an aggressive female.

Tidwell: Is he doing her ?
Dani: What!?
Tidwell: What?
(She looks at him.)

Dani: Is that from when the monkey hit you ? (Nods no.) Someone hit you after the monkey ? (Nods yes.) Do I want to know ? (Nods no.) I’m glad we could have this talk.

Charlie: If you have sex with a woman with two names, does that…
Dani: No! It doesn’t count as a threesy.

(Charlie is eating a banana.)
Billy: Aren’t you supposed to be looking for a killer ?
Charlie: That’s what I’m going.

Jennifer: When things like that happen you pretend it didn’t happen and you go on. You don’t talk about it with the husband of the woman you wanna have sex with in the back of a car.
Charlie: Do we want to pretend it never happened ?
Jennifer: That would be the civilized thing to do. [That's not a yes.]
Charlie: Do we want to be civilized ?
