Life: Find Your Happy Place [season premiere]

By fred | September 30, 2008

The case was in the tradition of what we find on this show, a very unusual crime, and only with Charlie Crews on it could the link between all victims be what they were about to be, that they were all (about to be) happy. The investigation went down as always, we even had Charlie facing some “new technology” along the way and, of course, fruits were there.

On that note, the arrest of the drug dealer was pretty fun. Charlie acted exactly like how you’d expect him to, even not counting to three felt like him, what I thought was pretty funny was how in the end, it was Dani who got herself an ice cream. About that arrest, when the new Captain was yelling at the drug dealer, I didn’t like that. Felt a bit too much / too forced to me. When he pointed out to Dani that she had some ice cream on her lips, now that was awkward moment number one.

LifeI liked that now Charlie & Dani are a team, and Tidwell is the outsider now. Dani “defending” Charlie after Tidwell made that comment to Charlie about being locked in a box, one word and just a look, loved that. The comment Tidwell then made, that was awkward moment number two and such a great reaction from Dani, again.

One thing that surprised me though, came from the serialized part of the show. For a moment it might have looked like things wouldn’t change much there, but Charlie found something useful for Ted to do, besides making him even richer : play cop. I haven’t really been a fan of Ted, but him as a cop was pretty hilarious. And then, what a shock that was when they opened the door and found Rachel Seybolt right there.

I really didn’t think this would happen so fast, because this was only the first episode of the season of course, but then also because if they really didn’t want Charlie to find the girl, and it sure seemed that way, why kept her here even after Charlie & Ted first visited ? I would have thought as soon as they head about it, and I assumed they would have had heard about it, she would have been gone. Actually, I thought she was gone already the first time, but no, she was right there, she was lost but now is found, or something.

All in all this was another terrific episode of Life, about everything there is to love in this show – and there’s plenty – was there. I couldn’t be happier to have it back, I’m thrilled to see that Charlie & Dani are still the same, that the show didn’t change (much) during those long ten months, and regardless of what it means, I’m pretty excited to see a new episode this very Friday at 10.00

And because I can’t leave without a few quotes, here we go :

Kid: Is that a real gun ?
Crews: Yes, it is.
Kid: Can I touch it ?
Crews: No, you cannot.
Kid’s mom: He wants to be a policeman when he grows up.
Kid: You ever shoot anybody ?
Crews: Violence against one is violence against all. Violence against all is violence against myself.
Kid: Yeah. But you ever shoot anybody ?
Crews: Nobody… that didn’t had it coming.

Reese: Why did you tell her her husband was alive when he went in that box ?
Crews: Cause she asked me. Something you wanna ask me ?
(He looks at her, she looks at him, and walks out of the elevator.)

Girl: Brandi would have liked you.
Crews: Yeah, why is that ?
Girl: Cause you seem kinda broken.
(Not sure where she saw that, but loved Dani’s look at Charlie right there.)

Tidwell: So, how’d they get there ?
Crews: So… how did they get there ?
Tidwell: That’s what I’m asking, you heard me ask that, right?
Crews: Maybe it’s not who they were, it’s where they were. (Turns around, and walks out.)
Tidwell: Did he just, he just walked out, right?

Crews: Funny what that bartender said, about Brandi being happy for no reason. You think it’s possible ?
Reese: To be happy for no reason ? I think I don’t want to think about that.
Crews: Yeah but to not thin about it means that you are thinking about it. Because the “it” that you’re not thinking about is the “it” that…
(She turns around and looks at him, shutting him up instantly.)
Crews: I’ve never seen a sky that blue!
Reese: Okay now you’re just saying stuff.

Reese: Does everyone have a secret ?
Crews: You want to know mine ?
Reese: Which one ?
Crews: You know which one.
Reese: The one about my father. (He nods.) The one about my father having something to do with, you going to prison for 12 years ?
Crews: Reese I’m pretty…
Reese: (Cutting him off) Did I say I wanted to know ?

Tidwell: Could you imagine spending time in a box like that ?
(Charlie stares at him and walks away.)
Reese: Nice!
Tidwell: Oh because of him being in…
Reese: Yeah!
Tidwell: He’s lucky to have you as partner. I hope to have someone in my life like that someday.
Reese: What!?
Tidwell: What?
