Life: Fill It Up – Part 2
By fred | December 6, 2007
(S01E11) This was the second dose of Life we were treated with this week, and that was a delight once again. The only bad news that came with this episode was that I’m afraid this might be the last one we’ll get to see in a while, and not only because of Christmas and the holidays…
But let’s not think about that for now, and focus on this new episode. Despite back on its usual time slot, this was once again a very special episode we got to see this time, but not only because it was the second part, continuing from Monday’s episode. No, the episode in itself was very unique and very “different” that pretty much every single episode of the show we got to see so far.
Not that this was a bad thing, though.
It wasn’t, but still it made this episode very unlike what the show usually is like, and as a result some bits were “missing”. Or at least I missed them. For instance, this episode barely had a case, there was no murderer to catch, only to find the gun. And the snake that came with it. Also, Charlie wasn’t really involved in all of this, as he had other things to deal with.
In the end, I did miss a lot of what I love about this show like Charlie’s very unique behavior and ways to work on a case, his little comments and remarks that only he can make, or the interactions between him and Reese, along with her reactions and looks… pretty much all that I praised last week, in fact, was absent from this episode, and I missed it all.
But of course, being different does not mean being inferior or less interesting, and overall I really liked this episode which had some new and pretty interesting things to offer in replacement, and we’ll come to that soon. First, let’s talk about Reese and the “case” of this week.
While it could easily have been a filler, it absolutely was not nor did itĀ felt that way, if only because its purpose wasn’t to fill in time but to get Reese something to do this week. And as the show has gotten us used to, it did it in a much better way than most other shows would have. It was always brief, and it did serve an interesting and probably necessary goal : to get Charlie’s current and ex partners to talk a little, and get things straight.
They’ve never really been good, the two of them. Despite a little comment on her father, maybe, Reese seemed to have a little grudge over Stark, although we didn’t know why. Now we do, and while things aren’t completely resolved it got better. Not by a lot, after all Reese never really answered any of his questions, because each time she had to the snake would show up and change the topic of the conversation.
Now that we’re done with that part of the episode, let’s dive into the big part : Charlie’s investigation.
In fact, more than his investigation, what we got to see this week (or this Wednesday should I say) was another side of Crews. We’ve always seen him as a very Zen person, one that may still have some reflexes from prison and carry a knife on him, but one that wasn’t violent, quite the contrary.
