Life: Another Look At “The Kiss”…
By fred | October 30, 2008
Next week on that day we will be talking about Life and the latest episode of the show, since it is moving to Wednesdays at 9.00 from now on. But before that I wanted to just talk a little more about one thing that happened last Friday during last episode, one thing that I thought was was really bad, in an otherwise really great episode. I am of course talking about that kiss, that horrible kiss that happened by the end of the episode.
I haven’t commented it that much in my review of Did You Fell That, other than to say I hated it, because that’s pretty much how I felt, and still feel, about it. But now that I had a little more time to calm down and look back at it, I just wanted to add a couple of things, a theory of why it happened, and what it meant that it did happen that way…
Because there’s a reason that I hated this kiss, his name is Tidwell. But in all seriousness, the reasons are many, the first of all being that it didn’t seem to be something Dani would do, ever. Something was wrong about that entire scene, it came out of nowhere and it didn’t feel like it really belonged there, and what actually took place only made that all the worse.
It was strongly out of character, but not just because I happen to be a fan of the show and remember the old Dani, the “real” one, Dani from the first season. No, no need to go back that far. The entire season so far, both Charlie and Dani have made it pretty clear that they didn’t took him all that seriously, they didn’t really respected Tidwell, he was the new boss but no one really thought of him that way — probably because he never acted like it.
More than that, they’ve repeatedly made fun of him, and Dani was pretty explicit how she felt about him and his attempt at flirtation : she was disgusted and would rather be shot dead that get intimate with him. When he asked her out for a drink, she didn’t welcome the invite, not at all, she was pretty clear that it was wrong on so many levels, like the fact that he is her boss (at least on paper) and as such this simply is wrong.
And even during the actual episode, she didn’t change at all. She still made fun of him, and with Charlie, they both made fun of him standing right there in the doorway and being afraid to move away, because it was completely stupid and useless. Along with that, while Tidwell was screaming as soon as he heard any noise even though it was only Charlie cleaning the whiteboard, during the actual Earthquake Dani barely moved.
Just like Charlie, they’re used to it, they’re not scared, they did not panic in any way, they barely reacted to it. In fact, their reaction wasn’t to the shake itself, but to Tidwell’s behavior.
Then came that scene, out of nowhere, and completely in contradiction with what happened just before in this very episode, in contradiction with who Dani is, who she’s been ever since the show started, with her “new” self this season, and even with her in this very episode.

SAME!!! i was like “WTH” when i watched it
okay maybe i’m still waiting for Crews and Reese to get together LOL but i have no problem with Crews hooking up with some gals coz he just hmmm idk how to put it >..< and Reese with Tidwell Oh dear God waaaaay too random, even the flirting thingy from Tidwell not making me want something happen between him and Reese for real, i usually like this kinda relationship hate and love thing but not this one =_=
the Writers better not being stupid here, and i hope this thing between Reese and Tidwell just one thing and go away
still rooting for Crews and Reese !!!
For the record though: I’m against Crews & Reese getting together, actually.
I think they work great together, I love watching them interact with one another, but I never felt like there was any sexual tension between them, I would say they’re more like close friends, BFF, maybe brother & sister, but definitely not lovers.
It’s one of those shows where I really hope they will not actually get together, because it wouldn’t work, I don’t think. Just like on Bones, except there’s a lot of sexual tension between Bones & Booth, but I don’t think it would work either…
My thoughts?
I liked “the kiss” even if I didn’t like Dani running to the doorway. (I suppose the writers didn’t find anything better… :-/)
I like Tidwell/Dani for a SHORT love story
I desperately WANT Creese. If they can manage Tidwell/Dani, they’ll able to menage even Crews/Reese.
I.
DON’T.
WANT.
CHARLIE.
WITH.
JEN.
I have some thoughts about ‘Jackpot’ but I’ll wait…
