Jericho: Oversight
By fred | March 5, 2008
(S02E04) So this was the latest episode of that little show called Jericho, and with it I have to say that I’m starting to get more mixed feelings that I used to during the first episodes. No, I’m not saying this episode was bad or that I don’t like the show anymore, absolutely not. But my point is that I was pretty happy to hear that the show would get a second season after all, and when I saw the first couple of episodes, I was really excited about the whole thing because, well, the show looked stronger & better than ever.
Now that we’re four episodes in, I see worries kicking in regarding the overall thing, as well as problems I have with the way things are actually going down in Jericho. Sounds a little complicated like that, so I’ll try to explain what I mean here.
In this second season, the main plot that was left open back in season one finale got resolved pretty fast, and things moved on to another level. I got no problem with that, I actually welcomed the change. But since then, we’ve had to deal with many different plots like the little affairs of Jericho, the big picture with a new government, or a company, taking over the country and rewriting everything they possibly can, and this includes both the whole bomb conspiracy plot (featuring Hawkins’ buddy leaving Jericho for a bigger state…), but also one we may have forgotten : Jericho’s actual mayor going to town to discuss whatever he thinks he’ll be allowed to discuss, but he probably won’t.
That’s a lot of things we have to deal with now, and this is episode 4. I know, it sounds like nothing, but when your season finale, and maybe/probably series finale, happens to be no other than episode 6 7, it puts things into a brand new perspective, doesn’t it ? And the more it goes the more I feel like my worst fears might be coming to reality, that we won’t get an actual ending, no closure, at least not for it all. The worst of all actually being that while Jericho’s trouble and their own rebellion might come to an end, we could not find out who really was behind the bombs and whether or not they’ll get away with it !
So yeah, that’s starting to worry me a bit. And meanwhile, what happens in Jericho keeps to be somewhat problematic to me. I’ve said it before, but I have a really hard time believing that only a handful of people in this little town would actually have a problem with the new government and try to organize something, to fight back. Let’s be clear here : I’m not saying that i have a problem with not everyone in Jericho being willing to fight, that I can understand.
I actually think that it’s pretty well done, how people react and not agree on how to deal with things. In Jericho, and probably everywhere else in the USA ASA, people are facing the same situations, and it looks very much like they’re living under occupation. Much like what happened in France during WWII, only here there isn’t an actual enemy, just a new government. It’s an inside job. But part from that, new people are coming to town and taking over everything, none of what used to be true is worth anything anymore, new rules are being set, new cards are distributed, and that’s the way it goes.
Sure, some people will fight back, a resistance will be organized, but not everyone will be a part of it, others will just wait and see, trying to survive without realy getting involved, while looking at others fighting, one side or the other, and some people will indeed collaborate with the enemy, or the new corrupted government, same difference. That’s all pretty realistic actually, I think. What’s more problematic is that is seems more and more that there’s only own town in the entire country where such a thing is happening : Jericho.

Actually there are 7 episodes this season but I agree, that is not enough. We need more seasons of Jericho. Hopefully CBS will do the show right and give it a spot on their fall line-up.
Right, thanks, it’s seven, seven episodes.
I don’t know why I always think there’s only six of them… I’m sure in a few weeks I’ll be very happy to find out there’s one more episode than I thought! Silly me.
EXACTLY why WE MUST HAVE A THIRD SEASON OF JERICHO!!!
So tell CBS WE MUST HAVE A THIRD SEASON OF JERICHO.

HELP US SAVE JERICHO!!
You know, as I said here, I really doubt CBS will ever renew Jericho, because it doesn’t perform that well (for CBS).
What fans might want to do instead is try to get the show to move to another network like The CW or SciFi, one that will take good care of the show and allow it to live for a few more years…
