Jericho: Condor

By fred | February 20, 2008

Jericho(S02E02) Last episode was pretty special, if only because it was the first one of the new season, a season that was “not supposed to happen”, not according to CBS. But fans fought for it, because they love the show that much, and a mini-season of 7 episodes have eventually been ordered by CBS. That isn’t much, but it’s better than nothing - especially since there’s hope for a third season after wards. (Well, there would be if more people actually watched… Damnit people, tune in, this show is really good!)

In the mean time, the creative minds behind the show took care to cook some pretty great season to please the fans, and while I said last time that the show had a somewhat different “tone” to it, that things had evolved from the previous season, and that at first I was even “shocked”, almost not fully recognizing the show (okay that’s a bit much…), there’s no doubt that Jericho is back, fully back, stronger & better than ever!

As I said last time, if the show moved on to new things and new territory this season, there’s one story and a couple of characters that feel like a memory of the past. While everyone and everything in and around Jericho evolved, Stanley and Mimi seemed to be stuck into the past. They may pretend that for them too, things have changed, and of course they did, but it really doesn’t feel like they did, not like it all around them.

They’re still in the same things they were back in season one, and their whole marriage thing is completely annoying if you ask me. Granted, I never was a fan of either of those two, but I really feel like everything has evolved, like the whole show moved on to a new place, a new tone, a new rhythm, everything and everyone, but them. And that’s about the only thing that bugged me this week, because apart from that, it was another real cool episode we got there !

Sure, we still don’t really know who’s dead and who’s not; What happened to Jonah, I have no idea. And those two kids who fought for their restaurant, do we know what happened to them ? I don’t think so. Note that it’s actually a nice thing, though, since we’re put in the middle of things. I was a bit disappointed not to see Heather back on this week, cause I (kinda) like her, but at least - out of nowhere - Bonnie came back. Of the three living up there in that farm, she’s definitely the best of all!

Now to what happened this week. I have to say that maybe things haven’t changed that much after all. Jake is still watching over the town, helping everyone and in the middle of everything, and yes, plenty of things you could see coming easily, like the whole thing with the walkie going MIA and then, of course, not found in the purse but quietly waiting under some desk.

That wasn’t all very new, but it didn’t bother me too much. What I found way more, say, “odd” was the whole bit with the new President. Okay, so first of all and for some unexplainable reason it seems that Jericho has been chosen, of all cities still standing, to be where the President would show up. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against that little town, I like it, but it’s not like it’s a very strategic point, at least I don’t really see it like that, maybe wrongly. Also, and again I maybe be wrong, but I wouldn’t call Jericho an example

An example of what ? Of how, in time of crisis, they were able to soon come to start a war with the town next door ? Call me crazy, but that’s not really the kind of behavior I’d want to put as examples. I’m sure many town didn’t do as well as Jericho managed to do, but surely some managed to do better. I’m not really sure it deserves so much attention all of a sudden. I get it, it’s a TV show and all, but that was still quite “odd” I felt.

    Great review!

I have to disagree with your opinion of Stanley and Mimi, since I like them as a couple. I think both Stanley adn Mimi have changed and the changes borught them closer together.

I put a summary and a link to your review in our news archive.

    Thanks!

Yeah I’m sure others will disagree with me on this one, but somehow I never really liked them that much…

And yes, they changed, obviously, but it’s much more of a continuity of the changes initiated in season one, and much more in the tone of last season, than it is for others I fell… Like Darcy Hawkins for example.

But really, if that’s my only problem then there’s no problem! ;)
