In Treatment: Jake and Amy – Week Two
By fred | February 10, 2008
(S01E09) Okay, so I’ve been a little busy and despite the (soon to be over) strike, Thursday is still a big night. So yes, I failed to watch the two last episodes of In Treatment, plus I have to say I wasn’t that excited about it… I watch the show, I kinda like it, but I can do without it quite fine.
But I’m watching the episodes I missed and I just watched the first one, Thursday’s session and the return of Jake and Amy, the couple that I said last week had to get a divorce, since they obviously couldn’t stand each others or talk to one another without screaming and yelling. Of course, this episode was very different. Well, it was and it wasn’t.
It was, because Jake and Amy were very much in love and happy together, at least as long as Paul wasn’t involved.
And at the same time it wasn’t, because once they entered the room and sat down with Paul, they started to be angry again and yell at one another again.
But that’s not really why this episode was so different than the rest, no the main thing here was that, despite its title and being the session of Jack and Amy, this wasn’t about either one of them, in fact, very quickly they left in a hurry to go to the hospital, and we moved on to other things. Namely, to Paul and his wife, and their problems.
Now I gotta tell you, I didn’t like that one bit. Sure, it shared a similar tone to last week’s as those two can’t talk without yelling at each other as well it seems, and I’m guessing this was done so that on Friday Paul will have something to talk about with Gina, but I really didn’t like that, for a couple of reasons. For starter, I didn’t care that much about Jake and Amy, but if I had I would have hated not to see them this week.
If this becomes a regular thing, if every week one episode can not be about whoever it’s supposed to be about, but instead focus on Paul’s private life, that won’t by any good. Especially if you’re not watching every episode but only the patients you’re interested in, and it turns out that they’re nowhere to be seen during their own sessions. I don’t think it’ll become a regular thing, I sure hope it won’t.
About what we actually saw during this episode, well, it sucked. It really did, and not just because it was another fat cliché, that the therapist helping others to resolve their problems and fix their marriage is unable to do the same on his own. But after watching Paul dealing with his wife right there, I wonder if he really should be a therapist, because obviously he sucks.
I mean, if he can’t even recognize that his wife cheating on him isn’t the reason of their problems but a sign, a symptom that there are issues, there’s no way he should be in that field of expertise, really. If Jake & Amy had seen this, no way there would ever be back looking to him for advice, especially when it comes to relationships. And I’m even wondering if I should keep watching the show, because that guy is a real asshole !
It’s one thing not to be able to see your own problems, but they went a little far on that one, and men is that guy a jerk ! The way he treats and talks to his wife, it’s no wonder she’s cheating on him, Christ if they didn’t had kids you can bet your life that she would have let him ages ago.
What a asshole. That’s how I feel after watching this episode, I’m starting to hate Paul. I’m not sure if this was the idea here, but that’s without a doubt the effect it got on me. Now I’m going to watch Friday’s session, and we’ll see how this whole mess we be played out when he talks to his own therapist. Because obviously this was made so that they got things to talk about on Friday, and I’m kinda disappointed there as I first thought that Friday Paul would mainly go over how his patients and their stories were affecting him, but not entirely focus on his own problems.
And if it does, please keep that on Friday.
