In Treatment: Alex – Week Four
By fred | February 20, 2008
(S01E17) New day, new patient for Paul. That’s how it goes. And as every Tuesday this time was time for a new session for Alex. And again, if it was I may have been interested in his stories, this has passed now. Now the only reason I’m still watching on Tuesdays is to see how the whole story with Laura will play out, but other than that I don’t care.
As a result, I don’t enjoy those sessions that much, and I realized as I was watching this one that I get bored at times. When Alex goes back to his own problems, to his fear to trust Paul or any of that, I really don’t care. And truth be told, while he still had stories to tell, this time I really didn’t care.
But of course this episode was also revolving around Laura and her new relationship with Alex. And you could tell that Paul that interested in nothing but that story. He tried to care about Alex, he tried to show interest about everything going on in his life, but his face couldn’t hide the fact that what he wanted to know was about Laura, what happened with her, how was it, what will happen next…
Alex was shocked at some point that Paul did answer his question, for real and not with another question. Why did Paul do that ? Probably because he thought that if he didn’t do so, he wouldn’t get Alex to talk more about his relationship with Laura, and that’s all he cared about. When Alex told him that obviously Laura was thinking of someone else that night, that obviously she was in love with somebody else, Paul couldn’t have been happier, this was exactly what he wanted to hear.
So after Laura not so long ago, coming in late and complaining to Paul that he was trying too hard to read something there while there wasn’t anything, this week it was Alex’s turn to do the same, with the money. Speaking of which, I guess Laura succeeded in being on Paul’s mind during this session, as he was really curious to find out what was in that envelop Alex brought from her, and he wanted it close to him, and couldn’t have rushed Alex out faster so that he could finally open it.
But overall, I really don’t care much about this whole thing, because Alex and his problems or stories don’t interest me, although let’s be fair, Paul’s little story was of the worst, and I wanted for Paul to try and influence Alex in his relationship with Laura. But of course he does not do that, despite being a bad therapist so really it wouldn’t matter, and so I’m mainly bored on the end.
I am, and I can’t understand why Alex is actually thinking that this therapy is not only helping him, but totally worth the incredible amount of money he’s throwing on Paul’s table every week. Anyways, for now I’m still around, but I don’t enjoy it that much…
