How I Met Your Mother: The Three Days Rule

(S04E21) There are a couple of things I keep waiting for whenever I sit down to watch a new episode of this show, and so far I’m still waiting, because it’s not coming. It better be, I know it is, I just can’t wait, but it’s just not there yet. I could be disappointed or even annoyed, especially since we’ve been waiting long and for one of them it just doesn’t make sense that everyone keeps ignoring it, but here’s the thing.
If an episode isn’t good, or just okay even, I’ll be annoyed, no doubt. But if those guys can pull off an episode that is simply brilliant, absolutely hilarious from beginning to end, one that plays on everything that makes those characters so great, lovable and funny, one that makes me laughs my ass off for half an hour uninterrupted, but I just don’t see how I could complain about anything.
And this week, all I can say is how much I love this show, and how awesome was this episode. Usual HIMYM construction in one story being told from different perspectives, and if Lilly was still very much offended by that joke that she had to give birth to a little baby girl or something, the rest of the gang was just stellar.
They were all exactly who we know them to be, from Barney telling the story of the three days rule, the one rule made up by Jesus himself, of course, as he waited the perfect amount of time before coming back, and then invented the high five. Because that’s the kind of guy he was, bro. That story was legen… wait for it.. dary! Legendary.
And Barney knows how to tell a story of course. Barney was his awesome self, Robin was still completely under his charm, although she refuses to see it and instead still tries to go on a date or have sex with any good guy she can spot or hear from. This time, however, Barney was so into the guy as well that he didn’t seem to mind it all that much.
But if we still had nothing on the Barney/Robin romance to be, all signs were there, including the speech about how “the one” is someone who loves you for who you are as opposed to willing to change you, while Robin couldn’t have been more receptive to Barney’s story, because she just loves him the way he is, too, and doesn’t want him to change (Well, maybe except for the sleeping around part, that might need adjustments or something).
And Ted, Ted and his annoying, obnoxious “naked lady noise.” That was just perfect, exactly what you’d expect from this douche, so much that when it came back in the end, it was still freaking funny.
I’m sure some of the things that took place were predictable, we all knew everyone would keep going “or…” and continue to mess with the other, just like we knew Ted’s erotic gay dream about his best friend would, again and as always, get Marshall and Barney to still fight to be the one. They both wanted it, and I had a great time seeing them both trying so desperately to sleep with Ted for half an hour.
Maybe Barney’s feelings for Robin were put in the back again, maybe there was still no goat anywhere, and I know Lily wasn’t even there, but it just doesn’t get any better than this. I loved this episode, and I can’t wait to see it again!
On a side note, so far Barney’s blog hasn’t been updated, and here I was looking forward to hear more about that three days rule…
What did everybody else think?
