How I Met Your Mother: Sandcastles In The Sand

By fred | April 22, 2008

How I Met Your Mother(S03E16) There had been lots and lots of promotion about this episode. Cobie Smulders went on a few talk show to promote the show, and this episode specifically, helped with a video that popped up on about every site out there. And while I’m sure many of you probably couldn’t resist and watch the video, I did not. I understand this was made to promote the show, but I already know and love the show, I don’t need such teaser.

And I just hate spoilers. There’s two teams when it comes to watching TV shows, you have those who love spoilers and want to know everything they possibly can before they actually watch the episode, and you got those who don’t want to know anything and keep all the surprises and twists for hen actually watching the episode. I’m a member of the later, whether it’s a show like Lost, or just a sitcom like How I Met Your Mother, I don’t want to know anything, no spoilers of course, and no teasers and promo clips either, because very often those are done by morons who just put huge spoilers in there.

So I hadn’t watch any of those videos, even though I wasn’t able to ignore the fact that this was all about the return of Robin Sparkles, Canadian Teen Pop Star. But that’s about all I knew, and even if you didn’t, you were told so from the first seconds of the show.

I’m glad I didn’t know anything else, especially since that new video from Robin’s past was completely new to me. Which I think was a really good thing, because while fun, I felt it was probably the weakest part of the episode, an episode that was absolutely brilliant and freaking hilarious from top to bottom !! I loved it, and it just makes me even angrier that they’re willing/trying to get Britney back, because she’s a mess, she can’t act, and they really don’t need her, or anyone.

That said, James Van Der Beek was a guest in this episode, and he was actually good. It’s one of those times, like with Sarah Chalke, where they actually manage to have a good one and make it work. Of course, it helps that, you know, the guy can actually act, unlike some…

This episode was just brilliant, from Robin’s breast to the Canadian jokes, to the flashbacks of the 80’s, to the “Revertigo” effect and Robin acting like she was 16 again, or Ted with his college buddy, or Lilly, of course, Lilly and her friend Michelle, who brought up the street side of Lilly, just like Lilly brought it up in Michelle (, and I kinda hope we’ll have more on that “revertigo” effect, because Barney and Marshall didn’t had any, and Ted seemed quite annoyed by that made-up word that didn’t mean anything, there must be a good story there…), to Barney willing not to hit on Michelle just to have her around Lilly all the time, and about 3 seconds later deciding to seduce Michelle, to Lilly and Marshall acting like the parents, and that awesome line at the end when Marshall yelled “Not now, Ted!!, freaking genius, to Robin playing some metal songs about murders over the pictures of cute puppies for adoption in the news, to Robin being dumped for Louise Marsh, again, exactly like 10 years ago (and I’m sure she took care of the drum set again, after he told her…), to Ted making fun of Simon’s job and getting a bunch of kids killed cause he didn’t have his hands up, to Barney finding out about that there’s another video of Robin Sparkles and rushing out of the bar in less than a second (had me rolling on the floor for quite some time!!), to of course that new video which, recut properly, could make for a good commercial for tampons

And I’m forgetting a few more things I’m sure. No, there’s no doubt this episode was one of the funniest of the season. As a great man would say, it was just legen… wait for it… dary !!
