How I Met Your Mother: Rebound Bro
By fred | May 6, 2008
(S03E18) Last week, some major event occurred on How I Met Your Brother, something terrible that everyone involved wishes hadn’t happened : the Bro code was broken. Worse, it was broken by the guy who invented it, kind of, the one who pretty much is the live incarnation of the Bro code. This was a major thing, one of terrible consequences as Barney lost his bro, his wingman, and possibly a friend that night.
And Barney can claim all he wants that he decided to let Ted go, but we know otherwise. The man was shut down by his best friend, and it hurts. Of course we were all waiting for this episode, to find out how Barney would handle this situation and the pain within.
And, not surprisingly from “The Barnacle”, he tried as much as possible not to let things like “emotions” come in to play, and just went on the look out for another Bro, eventually getting his hands on, as Robin pointed out, nothing more than a “rebound Bro”. With that said, give it some awesome lines and something of a Will Forte, and your rebound Bro might not be as efficient on Ted - who would never have hide under the table - but sure as Hell he’ll be awesomely funny!
Nothing really happen, though. Barney tries to pretend it’s all okay, and Ted just feels he’s outgrown him. I’m sure a big confrontation is coming up, but since the season is coming to and end soon it might just be right on time for the big finale. Meanwhile, is it me or was Ted a bit harsh on that whole thing ? I mean sure, Barney did break the Bro code and everything, but it’s not like he did it as a pure jerk, and it’s not like he’s never been a friend to Ted ! Could those two break appearances and end up in each others arms crying in a near future ?
Anyways, back to Randy, who I’m sure had worked hard before returning the “Application to be Barney Stinson’s Wingman”. He might not have been the best wingman ever, but in the end Barney was able to get him to go to a hot girl’s place, so that’s a win for Barney. And to get there, we got lots of hilarious moments :
- Randy’s dance when he was accepted to be Barney’s new wingman was pretty awesome.
- Randy did read the manual, but he doesn’t have everything right so far. How great was it to hear him go : “Tonight, is gonna be legendary, wait for it… dary!”
- Then he tried to go by the rules, so when given a chance to talk to a girl, the first thing is said was, “You’re a fat ugly whore.”
- Randy meets Robin. Randy’s nose start bleeding. “This happens every time I get an erection!” Just awesome.
As you can see this whole plot was filled with great, hilarious stuff. Still, it felt a bit odd. I remember how after breaking up with Ted, Robin wasn’t too sure where to stand, writers has troubles putting her inside the main story, and often she was sent away, stuck into her own subplots, pretty much by herself. This week, it was about the same, only it was Barney who was alone, trying to find his place now that he broke up with Ted.
On a side note, who else wished she’d have said yes, and became Barney’s new wingman. And the reason she did not, is the same reason Barney called Marshall before her : Ted. Still she got to help Barney in the end, and be the voice of reason, and she came because as Barney pointed out, she’s not sure he doesn’t have a sex tape of the night they spent together, “which is why [she] came all the way from Brooklyn at midnight“.
