How I Met Your Mother: Miracles

By fred | May 20, 2008

How I Met Your Mother(S03E20) Okay, season finale for How I Met Your Mother. It’s been really hard to get there, as some idiots at CBS seem not to think high of this little gem and probably because of them we had to suffer through not one, but two awful guest from Britney Spears. It was a mess, especially the second time which still pains me when I think about it, which is why I chose not to, but finally we got there : there will be a fourth season !

Thank God they came to their senses, because I don’t think I could have dealt without knowing I’d see the whole gang next season. A gang that, lately, wasn’t really itself. Barney was stuck with crazy traincreck he couldn’t escape, and Ted was somehow acting as if he had just erased Barney from his memory. I know that he will always deny he was his best friend, but really, how do you do that ?

And look, when Ted acted like a stupid Ted early on this episode, he was reacting to what ? The way he knows about things you’re supposed to avoid, or mistakes not to make, the reason he even knows about the date-time continuum, it’s all Barney. So we had at the very least two main plots still open this season, that needed to be addressed : Ted & Barney, and Ted & Stella.

And that’s exactly what this episode was about, it may have been a little less funny than usual, but the level of emotions was up to more than make up for it, because in the end it was a great episode of How I Met Your Mother, one of those episode that you love, and reminds you why this show is so special. Also, don’t be mistaken, there were some hilarious “miracles” involved !

About Ted & Barney, I have to say that I was shocked, really, that no one called Barney, not after they got there, saw Ted somehow didn’t have a scratch, and chatted for a while. Seriously, Barney has been their friends for a while now, not Ted’s friend, their friend. So what, Ted is acting like an ass and pretending he’s over Barney and doesn’t care about him, and just like that they all forget about him as well ? And do not even think of calling him when Ted got into a car accident !?? Really ? That felt really wrong to me.

Of course Barney cares, Ted has always been and still is is best Bro, of course as soon as he found out he rushed into the hospital. Which brings me to another continuity error, I think. But first, how come those Korean guys didn’t speak Korean ? What the Hell is that ? Just a cheap joke forgetting about who Barney’s mysterious company is supposed to be dealing with, or?

Anyways, wasn’t it odd to see Barney not able to run all the way to the hospital, while not so long ago we saw him running the marathon all day long without any problem ? Sure, he ended up stuck in the subway without the ability to move his legs, but that was after one full day of constant running, without even looking tired. I thought that was pretty odd, though probably not as weird as that bus hitting Barney while going the wrong way on a one way street, as the sign right behind Barney said !
Seriously, did it even stopped ?? I sure hope Barney hires some good lawyer and sue their asses, whoever’s responsible.

How I Met Your MotherAnyways, in the end Ted realized he and Barney were still friends, still cared for one another, and we’re all back to normal. Meanwhile, Barney also realized he really loved Robin. Well, that was a very sweet touching moment, the way he looked at her, gorgeous as ever. But really, who didn’t know he loved her ?? We knew that, we knew he didn’t sleep with her like he slept with any other girl, we knew this was going somewhere else, and at first I actually even thought Barney would confess it to Ted back in the limo.

And that scared me, to tell you the truth, because I’m not sure I like it. Will Barney still be Barney if he’s in love with Robin ? If he gets jealous, or acts “as if” and only pretending not to care ? Could he still be as awesome as he is, while in an actual relationship ? I don’t know, and since Barney is the force of this show this must be dealt cautiously, but after all we’re heading into the fourth year of the show, maybe it’s time for Barney to evolve… though that goes against sitcom rule #1 : do no evolve.
