How I Met Your Mother: Little Boys

(S03E04) I was really waiting for this episode, because as I’ve said last time I really love the show, but I thought this season wasn’t as good as the previous ones were. It doesn’t mean that it was bad or that I did not laugh while watching, but it didn’t had the same amount and quality of funny, no.
And of all, last week was the most disappointing episode of the three this season, so I was really anxious to find out if it was still going down that line, and if finally they had their mojo back!
I just watched it, and I don’t know how you felt but…
…but I am very pleased to say, this episode was awesome. It really was. Finally an episode as I love them, finally one that made me really laugh from start to end, what a great moment I just spent with those guys!
Right away you could tell it was gonna be great – or at least by then have high expectations. That opening scene set the tone from the start, with all of them sharing a moment all together, in a funny conversation about the “but”’s of every date. And some great lines such as Barney’s “she had a huge “but”, her huge butt!”
I’ve been saying from the premiere that having Robin on her own plot was a bad idea. Thank God they stopped this. Sure, this time she was still going on a date and had her moments with the guy or his kid. But it was not a whole story that involved no one but her. It was a back and forth with group scenes, and Lilly was involved all along the way.
How could you not have loved Robin and her hate for kids during this episode ?? Really ? I mean, it was hilarious! I just love how they showed her dealing with her flaws, especially when it results in lines such as : ““He won!?? He won?! My God getting the kid is winning, isn’t it?”
Robin was alone from time to time just as Ted was, and for both of them it was no problem at all. Because it was small, it was just a continuity of a more global plot involving more than them, and of course – and probably more importantly – it was funny, really funny.
This time all characters keep all meeting, interacting and sharing bits of each other stories. And unlike last week, this episode was simply hilarious! How could you not love Ted seeing little Barney’s all over his date !
Sure, it wasn’t perfect, a couple things sounded forced or very sitcom-cliché. Starting with how Robin ended up to “surprisingly” like the kid, then had to break up with him, only to answer the door herself at her date’s place to find out the guy has been dating a lot of girls at the same time. Introducing each of every one of them to his 6 years old kid, apparently.
And maybe you saw it coming, maybe not, I did not, but either way it doesn’t matter because it was just a pure Barney move to have him manipulate Ted only to actually get the girl in the end. Too bad it badly backfired on him, as after Ted she wanted to take things slow, and enjoy some Reggae along the way, to Barney’s delight.
Regardless, Barney is a mastermind who does much better than “Are you a model?” (poor Marshall), so yeah, let’s hear it again : “Parce que j’ai le jeu, mes chiennes! Translation: cause I got game, bitches!”
Other moments guaranteed to make you laugh :
- “You can’t spell “game”, without “me”.”
- Marshall making some wildly homoerotic remarks to a stranger in the bathroom, getting his number and announcing proudly : “Look who’s got game!”
- Robin facing her worst fear when the kid enters the room, jumping on her phone for help : “It’s here, Lilly. It’s looking at me!”
- Poor Barney having to endure hours and hours of reggae just to win a bet no one probably even cares about weeks after. “What’s that song called? Oh right, it’s called “every reggae song”!”
- Little remarks Robin let out to the kid, such as “That is so sweet, even though it doesn’t rhyme!”
- As Barney did, how could you not appreciate Marshall reusing “Barneyism” as he was announcing how many times he & Lilly had sex : “We have had sex a total of… wait for it…” Nice!
- “Going blhbblhblhblhb on what I’ve already gone blhbblhblhblhb on” Legendary.
This was simply an awesome episode of a great show, a show finally getting his things back together. Now all it has to do is start from there and keep and the road of awesomeness.
This episode is just why I watch How I Met Your Mother, after last week’s disappointment I was glad to finally fall in love with the show all over again.
BTW, milk first it is.
