House: Ugly

By fred | November 16, 2007

Thirteen is still a mystery, a very lovely one. Another reason we don’t need Cameron back : Thirteen is very much like her. Plus, she’s a brunette. When everyone was doubting House, when even House himself was doubting House and his judgment, Thirteen was still convinced that House was right, and so she was watching over the patient going in surgery because she knew, something would happened.

And in the end it turned out that House was right, about being wrong, and Thirteen was here to prove him right, or wrong. Either way, she’s definitely part of the new team.

But obviously this episode was revolving around the plastic surgeon, Taub. We got not only to see him affirming himself and even contradicting House, although it took a while for him to build up even confidence to get there, especially given that there was camera crew and he didn’t want to look bad in front of the audience, and potential future employers.

HouseBut eventually a few look at the camera got him there, and the fight between him and House was on. And for a long part of it, it looked like he was winning. It even brought House to go do some investigation on Taub’s past himself, meeting with old, very Nip/Tuck inspired colleagues. Leading us to the second part of what we learned about Taub, how he cheated on his wife, how he signed a deal not to be a plastic surgeon anymore to get them silent, and how how he eventually got interesting to House as his actions weren’t motivated by looking good on camera, but his belief that he was doing what was best for the patient.

House liked that, this is exactly what he’s looking for in his team members, and after this not only was Taub safe from elimination this week, but he might be here to stay after all. Going with a three members team, I may have to reevaluate my favorite candidates.

I feel that Taub might be sticking around, I’m sure Thirteen is, and I want Kutner to stay around as well. That would mean the Mormon and cutthroat bitch have to go, and I’m fine with that. He might be a single dad, but he never really had done anything worth remembering when it comes to a case, as he? As for the bitch, well, she’s a bitch.

She was never shy at breaking the rules, but I’m sure that shouldn’t be a problem for any of the others either. She’s still having a very active part during the differential diagnosis and comes up with ideas, though. She might need to screw up something or cross a line to be sure to be out, or else she’ll just be out simply because others were better. The later might piss her off even more.

Quick mention of the “preview” House and Cuddy watched of the documentary. Was it real ? I get the “the media manipulate the facts and report the story they want to tell, not what they actually witness” bit, and I loved the line about not trusting Michael Moore’s movies anymore (which was even funnier given how he referenced his latest one, Sicko, not so long ago) but it felt a bit too much.

Really, very, too much, in fact. So much that I’m still convinced it was done especially for and by the request of Cuddy. Just to play with House, and his reaction was indeed worth it.

All in all another great episode. Now if only the strike could be over soon so that we don’t suffer from withdrawal effects due to a lack of House on TV…
