House: Ugly

By fred | November 16, 2007

House(S04E07) I’ve been experiencing some difficulties this week, and as a result my viewing of the latest episode of House had to be delayed, which really is not something I appreciated. I really missed the show, and I’m pretty sure this one is going to be on top of the list of shows I’ll mist the most once the strike will have turned TV into a box filled with void.

But let’s not think too much about this giant sword over our heads, not for now. Because now it’s the time - for me - to get my latest and much needed dose of House, still the greatest show on the air right now. Hands down.

A few minutes in this episode, I was actually worried a little. Because it seemed that this wasn’t going to be a “regular” episode of the show, but a different, special one. After House sneaking out to work for the CIA lats week, this time a television crew was filming a documentary and, of course, happened to follow House on his latest case.

I was worried that this would be quite intrusive and distract too much the usual pace of the show, but I ended up being quite happily surprised to see that it wasn’t, after all, much in the way. In fact, it could have easily been forgotten about, almost, and seen as just another of those things that takes place during the course of a case with our favorite Doctor.

Another worry I had at first was that this would focus more on Chase, who was involved in the original surgery the film crew was here for in the first place. I feared this was a way to have a Chase-centered episode, to “make up” for the little time he’s had so far on the show the season. And, it’s not that I have anything against him, I really don’t, but that wouldn’t have been such a good idea.

So again, I was pretty pleased to see it didn’t push that more than required, and in the end that whole aspect of the show was pretty much nothing to really pay attention to, not so much.

Or it would have been the case, if it didn’t had such an impact on House. Or did it ? I have to say I’m not sure what happened to our cranky genius this week, but he was very different than his regular self. Is he in fact popping much less pills than he used to for years - despite the references made to his habit on the matter this week - and it’s starting to affect him ?

I know that Wilson came up with a different explanation for House’s “malfunctioning brain” and that House bought it, but I’m not so sure I do either. House has never been the kind of person to be influenced that much by pretty girls. I mean he’s had no problem working for Cameron for years, and she’s pretty stunning. Thirteen is a gorgeous as well, and again no problem there.

And besides, ex-CIA’s Terzi was around a lot of the time last week, and I don’t remember him being so inefficient. Or was he always getting wrong diagnostics and messing up when she was around ?

I’m not sure who or what to blame with this odd behavior of House, Terzi, the cameras, something else ? Either way, having him to have to ask Foreman if what she said made sense was a pretty damn hilarious thing, and the scene with House & Wilson sneaking in to watch the scene a few times was also very good. And offered a few great lines, like this one :

- How did you get those keys ?
- Blew the janitor!
- What !?
- That’s his name!
- His name is Lou.
