House: The Right Stuff

By fred | October 6, 2007

House(S04E02) After the brilliant episode of last week, which was the perfect and required set up so that House can actually start to look for a new team, this week we were expecting the search for replacements to start, and quite obviously it did.

And this occurred in a perfect House way, with all you could have been expecting from him, and some very interesting response from the candidates. As we saw last week, House did not go for only a few one, he wanted to have choices, to find the best suited for the jobs, and as such started with dozens of people willing to join the team.

Apart from the comedic aspect that would follow from such a large crowd, it was also a good way to remind us that there’s a reason House can get away with so many things : he is the very best, and plenty of doctors are willing to do anything so they get the chance to learn from him.

Now before we go into it, a few words on the plot as a whole. I was worried about the way they were to re-introduced all the original team members back into the show, but I failed to mention that bringing in new blood, and new people for House to torture interact with is actually a pretty good idea.

While I was never bored by the “old” dynamic of things, writers have here found a way to completely shake things up. And they do that pretty well.

I think there was nothing not to like with the applicants and the way House dealt with them. Last week I was suggesting that maybe the quest for a replacement team might have lasted for quite a while, I guess I was wrong. After firing randomly rows of people, and then a few individually, by the end of the episode we pretty much know who are going to be the chosen ones.

About those that didn’t make it, I don’t think I’ll miss anyone. Maybe the girl from last week, number 23 I believe, who had a Cameron-like thing going on for her. But evidently a better number was in store for that spot, so she had no chance. Others I’m even surprised that lasted that long, they really didn’t fit for the job at all.

At first I thought number 10 would make it, he was ready to break the rules and follow orders, but of course House needs people who can stand up to Cuddy and hide what they were told to hide from her, he needs them to be on his side, or if not to be on what they believe to be the patient side. Crackign under pressure in not an option. In other words, good riddance.

I’m not sure if number 18 will make it, the whole religion fight were quite interesting and could lead to good moments in the future as well, but I have one little problem with him. Not him directly, though he doesn’t appear very strong to me. My little problem is that he might make it, cause he’s black.

I mean, one black guy leaves (even though…) so another one comes in. Noticed how there wasn’t two or more, not even black girls, just one black guy. To fill in the empty space Foreman left. Yeah yeah, some just left cause they didn’t want to wash the car. Why couldn’t have they found black actors for say number 2, and/or 39. Some that would stay a but longer, and actually say something. I don’t know, maybe it’s me, but I thought this was just… “odd”.
