House: It’s A Wonderful Lie
By fred | January 30, 2008
(S04E10) Finally!! Finally, after all this time we got to see our favorite Doctor back! Going to see the doctor isn’t usually fun, but when it’s House we’re talking about it couldn’t be any better. I couldn’t wait for a new episode, and I was so happy to see him and his team back I didn’t even mind that despite the first month on 2008 being almost over this was a Christmas-themed episode.
What I now realize troubles me a little if I think about it is the very sad news that now that we’ve seen this episode, there’s only two left. That’s right, we only have one episode coming right after the Superbowl this Sunday, and then next week a new - and, sadly, final - episode of the season.
But for now, let’s focus on how great it was to see House back, and how this episode went down.
So this episode was somewhat special, not because it was a Christmas-themed episode but because it was the first time ever that House’s new team had to work on a case. So far, what we had were candidates, possible member of the new team, but no one was safe, no position had been granted and they could all get fired any day. But this time, things were different, House made his decision and he’s got his team.
In the past I said I was pretty happy with the people he had chosen, I said that I liked them, yet somehow I think they were able to have me change my mind, or at least reconsider things. Not all of them, of course, but a couple of them disappointed me a little.
First we have Taub. Taub was exactly like you’d expect him to be, and while the whole bit about he & Foreman lying to the mom’s one-night stand to get it to confess that they took E seemed a little too forced to go along with House claims, it was still good. He behaved like you’d except him to, he did nothing wrong nor did he changed his ways now that he’s got the job.
Then we have Thirteen, the mysterious Thirteen. I’ve heard many people repeating that she was nothing but a new Cameron, but I don’t think she is. Just because she’s a girl, a gorgeous one, and seems to care about her patient and be willing to believe in them, just because she chooses to see the good in people doesn’t make her a clone of Cameron. I do not see her been attracted to House, nor do I see her asking him out any time soon.
Thirteen is not really like Cameron. The two aren’t opposites, but they aren’t clones either. Thirteen has never been shy about confronting House, facing him and refusing to let herself drawn into his little games, and I love that about her. So when she pulled out her present for House, admitting that due to pressure she caved in and went with the flow, that was a letdown for me.
I realize that it’s all Kutner’s fault, but I still wish she had not went there but stayed strong on her beliefs. And she did not change her mind after two of her colleagues gave House a present, but only one. She didn’t know about Taub before she had already went out, bought and packed something for House. So in the end I think that leaves us with only Foreman, who did not caved in and did not got House anything, despite being, too, (one of) his secret Santa(s).
