House: House’s Head

By fred | May 13, 2008

House(S04E15) Alright, so I finally got a chance to sit back and watch last night’s episode of House, and I was expecting a lot from it. Many reasons for that, first it is House and I always expect a lot from this show, because it is that good. Second, I previously watched How I Met Your Mother, and as much as I love the show, the episode sucked, so I wanted to see something good now.

Finally, this was the season finale, well the first part of the season finale to be exact. It might not be as big of a deal as when it comes to, say, Lost, but it’s still something. All of that made for this episode to be a very special episode, no matter what, and one that would have had to be good for me to really like it.

Not that this was a problem, because I loved it! This was an unusual episode, and for once there was pretty much only one single plot, no B-stories to include other characters, in fact if it wasn’t for Chase and the whole hypnosis thing, which he just happens to be in charge of, of course, there would have been absolutely nothing where the use of one character felt a bit forced. This episode was brilliant, this is the kind of television I love to watch, this is actually why the writers needs to be paid as much as they deserve, because I don’t care how many more millions people might be watching nobodies trying to sing on American Idol, this is what television has best to offer.

There’s a reason I love this show so much, there’s a reason it’s in my Top3, and this episode is a perfect illustration of why. Brilliant writing, fantastic acting, and kudos to Greg Yaitanes who directed this episode, because it was fantastic as well, with a cinematic feel to it you rarely (or is it never?) see on television. Now if that wasn’t enough, we had some cool mystery, funny lines, and some sexy moments on top of that! I don’t see how this could get any better…

Maybe, if House wasn’t so perfect as to see that he was getting distracted, and if he allowed himself to forget about the case for a minute, if you catch my drift… Anyways, what an episode! House is in a stripclub, another brunette beauty getting undressed for him, and he has no recollection of how he got there. I won’t recap the episode cause you’ve seen it already, and if you haven’t you shouldn’t be there but watching it, no excuses.

So House was apparently in a bus accident, but he can’t remember. Not what happened, not why he was there, but he knows something : someone was one of the bus, he saw someone there, and if he can’t find that person back, he or she will die. That he is sure of, so he start being House and finding ways to keep the victims around, looking for symptoms and possible diseases he could have figured out while on the bus.

And that, the driver, it all was important, but the real mystery this week was not medical, it wasn’t about a patient, it was about the doctor ! It was see House trying real hard to remember what happened, what he saw, and who to save. In fact, for a moment there I actually thought he was the one he needed to save.

I don’t know much about hypnosis, but here’s what I can say for sure : it doesn’t work that way. Of course it does not, because otherwise everyone would use it, all the time, starting with the police. But it’s a television show, and it made for such great scenes that I’m willing to let it slide. I’m still shocked that House could actually get hypnotized though, because I was under the impression that you needed to actually believe it was possible, and render yourself to whoever is leading the session, you need to abandon control to someone else, and if there’s something House cannot do, is let someone else have control over him.
