House: Frozen

By fred | February 4, 2008

House(S04E11) It doesn’t feel like the last time we saw House was so long ago, and it wasn’t really. We had one new episode last Tuesday, this Sunday we got an episode right after the Superbowl, and then this Tuesday guess what ? A new House is on, too ! Yeah, we’ve been missing the show for some time now, and suddenly it there, it’s all there, almost every day. The only problem with that is that Tuesday, this might be the last episode of the season.

Or not, should the strike end soon there could be hope for four or five more episodes, who knows?

So this episode was the one after the Superbowl, but it wasn’t really a “Superbowl special”, because if something special for the event was originally planned, and logically it would have been a two-parter with conclusion on Tuesday, this couldn’t happen due to the strike, and instead this episode, which hasn’t been written for the event but as a regular episode, was promoted to this special slot.

Of course, that doesn’t mean it was good, far from it. In its regular Tuesday slot House is always fantastic, why should this episode be any different ?

Yet to be fair, I didn’t completely liked it. This episode has to be split in two : on the one hand, you got what worked, what was great and what I really enjoyed : the medical case, and the whole bit with Wilson. And then on the other hand, you had the new team and the Cameron subplot. Now that wasn’t good.

I know that we haven’t got to see her that much lately, I know that in the last episode we could saw her quickly if we didn’t blink at the wrong time, but she didn’t had anything to say, I know all that, as much as I know Jennifer Morrison is still credited as part of the main cast, unlike the new team. Still, I like it that she’s not used, since she left House and went on her own. She moved on, so she shouldn’t be any more involved than that. If anything had to happen, she should leave. I’m sorry to say that cay I like her, but that’s how life goes.

And this stupid plot with House wanting cable and asking his team to go fight Cameron for it, was really a bunch crap. It was stupid, really, and it didn’t really work on any level for me. Of course when Cameron said she resigned we knew House knew what was going on, and how the Hell could Foreman actually believed that Cameron really got fired !!? No, he didn’t see what we saw, and maybe he passed out and completely missed the whole cable game going on, but really !? Cuddy fires Cameron and goes to House, and mentions it like that, and tries to get him to react to it ? Could that whole scene have sounded any more fake ?

It was not interesting, it was not funny, and even the whole purpose of it all, to get the new team to realize that they should not be afraid for their jobs and not be afraid to stand up to House, didn’t work.

Let’s pretend it’s not in complete opposite with House’s comments to Cuddy last week about how they were not afraid of him anymore, I think we did not needed that much of a filler to get there, and I’m not even sure it worked. As far as I got to witness so far, Thirteen has never had a problem standing up to House, even when she wasn’t on the team. She’s no Cameron, she’s not in to please House, and if she has to she will confront him.

And what about Kutner ? Sometimes I get the impression that the guy is a mollusk of some sort. When House was pissed and got them to react, all he could came up was “I love you” !! Sure, it goes along with his face as he offered House a present last week, I mean at Christmas, but Good God this can be annoying. And in the end he came up with the idea that got House to solve the case, and he did so by standing up to House, but how many of you thought he did so because he believed in himself, in his idea, and wanted to fight for it ? Yeah, me neither. He did had an idea, and obviously it was going somewhere, but he only faced House because of the prep-talk he got earlier, and I’m convinced he didn’t actually believed in it but got lucky.
