House: Don’t Ever Change
By fred | February 6, 2008
And this comes in after he actually cared for one, if not two, of his patients. Say what you want, but he liked Marie, so much that he walked inside a Church, on Christmas day, to see her. And last time, he may not have spent one second in the same room as Cate, but he liked her too, he really did, using her name even. Yes, Wilson is happy, and House is willing to “self-sacrifice” for his friend’s happiness, he doesn’t want to mess with this relationship. He, too, has changed. And he, too, is much happier than he was previously.
He may still drink himself to sleep at night, he may still be a lonely cranky doctor, but nonetheless he looks quite happier than he’s been in the past. He’s still the same, but he’s different also. Just like Wilson, or Amber. When House asked Thirteen if she did it “both ways”, it was obviously a joke referring to her sexual preferences - previously mentioned, to her, by Foreman - and he did not just ask her, he also winked at her. That is a new House, because back in the days when the pretty girl on his team was another gorgeous brunette, I doubt he would have winked at her like that.
And this changes offered for some great confrontation between the two friends, which again showed a different Wilson as he was willing to agree with House. House told him he was sleeping with him, and there he was, agreeing that dating House was probably the best idea for him. This is not the reaction House expected, but then again, this is not the same Wilson. And another episode with lots of Wilson can’t be a bad thing. We also had a little more of Cuddy, which was a nice thing too, and apparently there’s only one surgeon on the Hospital now, Chase.
But since we were on Thirteen let’s have a look at House new team. Maybe it’s the cases, maybe I’m wrong, but somehow I feel that they aren’t really there, on the case, with House. They seem to be unseen most of the times. Take Taub for instance, he was there, working on the case and working with his new friend Kutner, but he doesn’t strike me as someone with a strong personality. He’s there, he’s a good doctor, but him or someone else, same difference.
His friend, Kutner, redeemed himself a little. Last time I wanted to punch him in the face as I told him he was fired, this time this anger was gone. Not that he was impressive or anything, he still looks like an intern having fun, wiling to help the patient, but not really having his own beliefs. He’ll have ideas or throw suggestions because he wants to help, he wants to solve the puzzle, but where House wants to understand everything, both the patient and his “disease”, Kutner just wants to get ride of both, the disease, so the case is closed, and then the patient, to move on the next one.
He doesn’t care that he understood everything, that he exposed someone’s lies, he doesn’t have any theory about anyone or anything really, he cares that it was cool to solve yet another unusual mystery.
And then we got Thirteen, which is starting to be a little disappointing as a character for me. Because at first was was this enigmatic girl whose name remains unknown, but now, she’s always seeing the glass half full, where House always thinks that people lie she’ll always trust them and thinks they’re saying the truth. Where for House a sudden and radical change in someone’s life is a symptom, altered mental status, for Thirteen is means nothing, it happens, people change.
Apart from her opposition to House, and her “mystery”, she’s not really doing anything that impressive when it comes to the case. Or if she is, I’m completely missing it.
Don’t think that I want her, or any of the new team to leave, cause I really don’t. Just like I don’t want Amber back on the job, or I don’t want to see Cameron or Chase, or Foreman, that much. People change, and so do TV shows. It’s time to let the old team go, and to get this new one to grow.
Another great episode, and now all we need is for an agreement to be worked out and approved by both sides by the end of the week, so that we could get some more episodes this season, because as good as it was, it didn’t feel like a season finale. So we have to have more, right?
