House: 97 Seconds

By fred | October 11, 2007

Other than that, I do have to thank her I guess for unfiring the guys team, because there’s a couple of them I do want to stick around. Although this episode was all for the female leads - we barely saw some of the guys - and if we’re to believe what was said, there can only be one. Obviously, that one is Thirteen.

House - No, it’s not Cameron! She will be on the team, I never doubted that, and House pretty much told her so as well. It may look odd the way he fired all of the girls team but her, while she is the one who screwed up, but he had his reasons. And, I’m pretty sure he can’t fire her until he found out what she’s hiding. That little secrecy she manage to create over herself is probably the smartest, most efficient thing one could have done to pick House’s interest and make sure you’d stay around for a while. (That is, unless you’re a real bad doctor, but she’s far from that of course.)

I also believe she does remind him of Cameron, and that surely also plays in her favor.

Speaking of which, the way both she and Chase were used in this episode was once again very well played. I liked both how they have being introduced into the story, and the fact that we did not see much of them. It feels right.

Side note, how cool was that scene when House tried to yell at Chase, and he basically tell him to fuck off! And that cute smile of Cameron, “I like him better like this. You?” That scene was just brilliant, and I loved to see House’s face as he realize that they’ve grown up, don’t need him nor are they under his influence anymore. He’s got no power over them anymore, and he was also proud of that, and of them.

I obviously have to mention also that, further than anything medical, House was questioning faith again, and the notion of afterlife. This was the result of an encounter with a patient who, as soon as he saw House, took a knife out and put it right into an electrical socket. An act that did intrigued House for a while, and so did the motives that were hiding behind.

So well that in the end, House did the same. I loved this plot, and it does reflect how much House does not like anything he cannot understand. He does not stop when a patient dies, because death is not the end of the game, not for him. He has to understand what was wrong, what was happening, even if he does so too late to do anything about it.

This also lead to one of the most funny line of the episode, when Wilson does prescribe House more painkillers : “I love you!

Also featuring :

- He loves Wilson, or did he loved the pills? While I don’t recall seeing him taking any this week, they were around. I do wonder, however, why we don’t see him taking them. It used to be very often, is he trying to lower his dependency, or is it meaningless really ? Is it Lupus ?

- I am still praying for Jennifer Morrison to go back to the gorgeous brunette she used to be, because I don’t like that blond hair.

- No, I did not mention anything Foreman. There’s a reason for this : I hated that part. Quickly, a few reasons : I didn’t like him trying to not be House, resulting in a pretty poor teacher/leader IMO. I didn’t like anything about that story, but his face as he’s proud to have done the right thing, yet gets fired. But in the end it felt like an excuse as to why he would come back to House, and I don’t want that.

Honestly, I loved Omar Epps and he’s always done a great job, but I think it would have been really best to let him go. I don’t see how he can be back this season in a way that doesn’t seem forced, stupid, or unrealistic. Unlike the other two, he did quit because he wanted to go away from House. Why would he come back ?

- As cruel as it may sounds, I am thrilled that the patients died. Because it’s good that they can’t save everyone, even House, and sometimes there’s nothing that can be done, or they figured it out too late. I do hope that they loose more patient than previous season, if only so that he can create a real mystery for us viewers : will this one medical mystery be figured out in time ? Will this patient be saved ?

I’m worried about next week episode, in two weeks, because we might get more of Foreman and I really don’t like that part. Other than that, this is definitely the best TV series out there.
