Heroes: Cautionary Tales

By fred | November 20, 2007

Claire, West, HRG, Mohinder, Elle, Bob, maybe others…

No, not everything was bad this week. For instance, West apparently isn’t a weird bad whatever but just a young Superboy in love with Claire, and him and HRG working together was pretty interesting.

Also, I still do like Elle, I really like her crazy attitude.. .”Can I keep him ?” she asks, talking about Mohinder. And I gotta say it was pretty cool to see her tied up, all wet with her feet under water. Though it was a big clue that she is indeed not so smart - which makes sense, I mean remember this is Heroes - cause she did act like it was her first day.

But I guess she never went to school so maybe we shouldn’t be too hard on her. For that one. And before going to the next one, I want to talk about how the two girls got “captured” :

- Claire : Bob went to see her at school, called her by her real name and let her run away. Obviously he intended her to go back to mommy. I’m still interested in the scene we didn’t get to seen when he’s facing Claire and her mother, and somehow gets them both under control and tied up. I mean, he doesn’t strike me as able to pull out some ninja moves, no offense, and yeah he’s got a gun. Only bullets are like totally not hurting Claire at all, neither does fire, twisting her arm, opening her up and removing a few of her organs, so really I wonder : how did he get her under his control, exactly ?

Heroes- Elle : I don’t care about her capture, although it was yet another proof that she isn’t such a great field agent, but I need to mention the little moment when the painting appeared as Mohinder had the gun pointed at HRG. I really took that one as an insult. An insult because either (a) this was supposed to be what the painting was about, only in the painting there was a smoking gun and guns don’t start smoking like that out of thin air, or (b) it was to mess with us and only make us think it was, which in the end is taking us for fools the same way.

Back on the final scene, the exchange of the daughters. Can anyone explain to me why the Hell did our crazy Elle not use her power at this point ? She wasn’t wet no more, her feet were back right on the ground, why didn’t shy get her arms free and knock HRG and West unconscious even before her dad (yes, it was actually said out loud this time. I really wished she would have been Adam’s daughter…) Bob showed up ?

Why did she wait to be walking by Claire to get herself free, and then waited for West to pick Claire up and fly away before she went after them ?? That was mostly ludicrous and stupid, and it seemed to only serve one purpose : to have the paintings come true, and HRG shot in the eye.

Which would have been really cool, if he was actually dead. But of course he is not, and that was another of those moments that were nothing close to a surprise. As soon as he got shot we knew he would be back, thanks to Claire’s blood we saw Bob taking just before.

How about trying to not meet but challenge our expectations for once, how about writing some good stories that are not just the same ones over and over again ? This show is like a stupid bad soap, only with superpowers. Again, I think I’m done with it.

See you next week.

What!?? Oh, yeah, well… I went so far I figure I can at least go up until what will most likely be the season finale, after all it’s only two episodes left.
