Heroes: Cautionary Tales

By fred | November 20, 2007

Heroes(S02E09) After last week’s terrible episode I said I was done with this show. Then yesterday as I went over what was on TV, I wondered if I would actually watch it or not. So the only logical next step was to indeed watch it. Sometimes I wonder why I do such things to myself, why would I put me through such an awful thing ?

I think for this time I’ll blame Elle. I really liked her last week, she was the only good thing of the whole mess, and while I didn’t know whether or not we would see her back this week, I’ll just go on and blame her anyways.

And I am pretty sure many will be quick to call this episode “awesome” or “the best of the season so far”. Well, let me tell you something, those willing to use that first statement are wrong, without a doubt. But those going for the second one, not so much, not really. You see the problem with Heroes is that the show has been so bad and this season has been so freaking disappointing so far, that now if you’re given an episode that doesn’t get you to sleep being such a bore you might be tempted to call it “great”, while it really isn’t.

This episode I believe was the less bad of the whole season, but that doesn’t mean much because really, when you actually consider it this season was pretty terrible. Being the less terrible just makes it that, but overall and without taking into consideration those previous episodes, tonight’s was okay at best.

Let’s go over the main things that took place, quickly cause I feel like too much would be a waste of time.

Hiro

I want to say scream “filler”. Alright there was actually some content somewhere in between, but after wondering why the Hell did he conveniently chose that point on the timeline to come back after his way-too-long trip to the past, the first things that crossed my mind about two weeks ago, when he learned his father was dead, was exactly it : why doesn’t he just go back in time and fix this ?

Yet it took him a few days, up until the funerals actually, and even then about 20 minutes or so, to came up with this genius idea ! Dear Lord. Not to mention that incredibly lame moment where he finally found out, in about 10 minutes, what we all knew for months already : that Kensei was the killer.

Maybe this could have been good, had it been reduced to its minimum. As such, it was too boring to be thought as something else than a filler. Too bad for Hiro’s speech, too bad for the links with what he learn about playing Gods and what took place with Claire, her dad and that whole thing, none of it worked.

Parkman

Holly Molly !! Did you see that ?? No because he acted like he was not the stupidest man ever to walk this Earth !?? And that’s huge, cause he usually does, or worse. This time he used his ability to get what he wanted, and he almost got it right off. Again, as such it would be a pretty “normal” thing, but with such a bad character it became something huge.

Put this in perspective with how his wife whatever Mohinder is to him, who acted like a total idiot to say the least, Parkman is looking impressive. Of course, take a step back and you’ll see he’s just pretty regular, but in this show it is now a privilege not so many people can claim.
