Gossip Girl: Woman On The Verge
By fred | May 13, 2008
(S01E17) Last week was a pretty dense episode, leaving us hanging as Georgina/Sarah continued to spread her web all over Serena’s life. Of course, leaving a crying Serena into Blair’s arms had us wondering what would happen next and, more importantly, what would Serena said now that she told Blair she “killed someone”. Needless to say I was eager to find out what she said after that “shocking” revelation, although I didn’t believe for one second that she actually did kill someone.
Truth be told, I wasn’t even sure someone had actually died. But that’s not the point, the point is that it seemed once again Serena’s life was about to be destroyed, and ironically enough, once again it was all due to Georgina. Because we might not have seen that tape or know what actually happened, but we knew she was involved, and that girl’s trouble.
She is, and I love it! Last week I think I wasn’t sure about it, but after this episode there is no question in my mind : Thank God Michelle Trachtenberg will be coming back next season (as a series regular), because G is my favorite character on the show, hands down. The only thing I don’t like about her are those awful ridiculously large sunglasses.
Alright, so let’s calm down and go back to what happened this week, in yet another packed episode. I have to say, it really feels like sometimes there’s too much happening on the show, it’s like they could have great story lines for one or two episodes, and instead they reduce them to 10 or 20 minutes top. And it’s a shame, because more than one it makes for characters and situations to feel just out of it.
So, Serena’s big secret, that mind-blowing, life-altering, gigantic secret that G was holding against her, that enormous secret so terrible S couldn’t even tell S or C, what was it ? Well, that one time Serena had sex with Nate while he was with Blair, she went back to a hotel, where a guy tried to force himself on her before she handed him some drugs waiting on the table, on which he OD’ed and died.
Wow, talk about “snuff movie” !!?? Seriously, that is what happened when she said “I killed someone” ?? Talk about a let down! I knew it was probably not going to be great, but this ? She was drunk and a guy was getting this close to raping her, when tough luck he’s a drug addict and couldn’t resist one last and fatal line of coke (or whatever that was, I’m not actually sure). Also, Serena tried to call 911 but Georgina - of course - didn’t let her. Still, Serena couldn’t resolve to leave like that, so she did eventually made the call right before leaving, and then stayed around to see how it would go, only to find out he died.
Now not only did she not kill the guy, but as a matter of fact and as we all saw coming, Georgina is the one who’s the real responsible here : she brought the drugs (didn’t she?), she planned the whole thing, and she didn’t want to call for help. Now here comes the 5 million dollars question : why is it worst for Serena to tell Dan she made out with some guy who died on front of her a long time ago, when she was drunk a lot, than pretending she slept with two guys last night, while she’s a new person and dating him ?
It makes no sense. And I was never really a fan of Dan’s, but clearly was she said that, well okay sure I guess it was possible she decided to tell him everything, which he wanted, and was indeed telling the truth. But it was way more probable she was only lying to send him away, and of course the idiot didn’t get that, and ran to “Sarah”.
So that was for the bad, but there were some good stuff in there as well. For starter, a few nice lines such as Dan showing up at Blair’s only to see her, Chuck and Nate all together. “Don’t all of you hate each other ?”
