Gossip Girl: Never Been Marcused
By fred | September 9, 2008
(S02E02) Well well well… a very busy Monday which we’ll begin going over with the latest installment of Gossip Girl. Last week the show was back, and while at first things were a little off, summer was soon over and everything was back on track. Starting, of course, with Blair and Chuck and the little war they’ve decided to engage in. I’m not sure where this will be going or how long it will last, but for the moment I’d say it certainly is the best thing on the show.
But it isn’t the only thing on the show, because while this non-couple might be the best thing in town as far as we’re concerned, it is Dan & Serena who are the “main” couple of the show, and that even if I don’t like the guy and sometimes wish they would break up so this would all be over. Clearly not the way things are going to go, since last week they got back together on the beach, with fireworks and everything…
And this week, early morning on the beach, they decided they needed to think about this whole situation, and talk things through, before rushing into getting back together. It could be a good thing, I mean clearly they have pending issues that, should they be addressed, I’m betting would result in the two of them breaking up, again. Has to, because that’s the way it goes.
But the thing is, S is unable to see through D, she can’t really process things, or she doesn’t want to, because for instance all she remembered was that Dan did show up for her, what a lovely romantic gesture. The fact that he started to pretty much insult her and put all the blame on her, again, refusing to even listen to what she had to say, all of that because she kissed Nate, while they were broken up, and while he had (allegedly) been kissing a different girl every night all summer long, totally slipped her mind.
So this week, it was a little cat and mouse game, on-again off-again, it’s getting even worse that it was with Ross & Rachel, and I’m getting quite bored with this personally. By the way, that whole scene in the bus, really ? I mean, strawberry in chocolate while on a bus ? Don’t tell me she wasn’t trying to tease him! Conveniently falling on his lap ? Oh come on!
Anyways, the real stuff weren’t from coming from them anyways, but, of course, from B, C, and a few other players. The biggest thing was of course that B wanted to impress her Lord, Marcus, and decided to then throw a rather boring party. But, as always, even in the most boring parties you’ll find something to entertain yourself. This week our savior was the great Chuck Bass, who in his effort to try to ruin things between B and her Lord brought Marcus’s step-mother at the party.
Now that was sure to be explosive, and it was, but the best part of it all was the reveal that Marcus’ step-mother isn’t just that, she’s also Catherine, as in Nate’s secret lover Catherine ! In other words, Nate is dating her ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend’s mother, and indeed could thus become Blair’s father-in-law ! Yep, awkward.
But this made for some great confrontation, and I have to say that this little fight between B and C is pretty fun so far, and even more than the face to face between B and Catherine, both perfect in their bitchy roles, I really loved it when B went to C to almost thank him, because his evil plan backfired, as Catherine is even sicker than he is, and so he lost, she won. Of course, we’re not talking about the war here, just a battle.
Needless to say we’re all waiting to see how C will react when he’ll find out what secret B knows after the Duchess, and when he knows it involves his best friend Nate. Speaking of which, I don’t get Nate : why did he refuse the money from Chuck ?
More importantly, and that actually made me laugh a lot : is it really better to take the money from Catherine, and to become her whore ? Because I’m sure she’s not giving him the money out of charity or friendship, like Chuck might have, and say what you want about Chuck Bass, I have a feeling Catherine will be even more prone to back stab Nate whenever given the chance than Chuck would have been. Given how possessive and jealous she seemed to be, over Marcus but also over Nate when she found out he was there at the party, seems clear things aren’t looking too good for Nate.
And it’s a shame really, because I would have loved it so much better if he had not been going down that road, and instead went back spending time with the lovely Vanessa for example. I’m not sure what will happen with her now, but I really hope she gets something interesting to do, because I like her. It’d be a shame to have her trapped in some stupid B-plot no one cares about, much like this week, or where Rufus or Little’J are right now.
And by the way, when is Lilly coming back ??
