Gossip Girl: Much ‘I Do’ About Nothing
By fred | May 20, 2008
(S01E18) Well well well… unlike most freshmen, Gossip Girl did had the opportunity to add new episodes to their first season once the strike was over, which was probably the best choice given how I’m sure many newcomers have already slipped away from the minds of many, and the summer isn’t gonna be any help. Anyways, they could add new episodes, and I think it’s fair to say that it almost feels like the writers didn’t change their plan.
They were going to have a few episodes less, well, so be it! Things would just have to go faster then, and for the past few weeks it seems that this is exactly what happened. So many things going on, all happening so fast, non stop, and you know what ? I think it’s good. You can’t be bored with this show, because even if you were not to like a plot, you simply wouldn’t have time to be bored, there’s too much going on all the time.
But of course, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. And it applies here, it’s not the first time I feel like sometimes things go by simply too fast, you don’t have time to enjoy them, you barely realize it’s happening that, wait, it’s over already ? It didn’t even start !
Case in point, I loved Chuck’s speech at the wedding, and Blair’s response, a lovely smile. Seeing those two master of evil hooking up together was just great, and creepy. It has to be creepy, a little, because it’s Blair and because it’s Chuck. You know they’ll never be the perfect happy couple, they’re not like that, but I loved it that they got back together.
And Chuck willing to take things slow, and make it right, happy simply because Blair knew he was a romantic, and that’s all that mattered to him now. It was great, wasn’t it ? Well, don’t be too excited, it’s over. Really, couldn’t the writers have put those extra pages with that blond girl and throw them away, or just kept them for next season ? Was it really too much to ask to let us enjoy what’s happening on the show ? Coupling B & C together was great, but we didn’t had a chance to actually enjoy it, because it was over before it even started.
I mean sure, I was curious about how things would go between them, and I was hoping B wouldn’t regret trusting C, and yes it was just awesome to have C pretty much justify his behavior, as he echoed the reason he’s doing that, the reason he’s evil, like all the bad things he’s done : “I’m Chuck Bass.” Okay, maybe it was meant to happen, but did it had to be only seconds after they kissed ?
I felt robbed there, just like with L and R. Those two have always been my favorite couple, and guess what: they woke up holding each other, having spent the night together, on the morning of the big day, Lilly’s wedding. And as expected R showed up on that day, ready to cancel the whole thing and steal her away, I almost wished he had just done it without asking first… because he asked, they spoke, I guess, but just like with S going to talk to the parents of the drug addict she saw died, we didn’t get to see it (all), because there had to be more, right?
Seriously, it’s unfair, what did we do to get treated that way ?
