Gossip Girl: It’s A Wonderful Lie

By fred | December 2, 2008

Gossip Girl(S02E12) Finally Gossip Girl was back, and with an episode as good and strong as the show can deliver. Doesn’t mean it’s not flawed, it is (*cough*Aaron*cough*) but as always there are so many characters on this show and so much that happens in everyone’s lives that it doesn’t really matter, there’s good for everyone to enjoy. Because unlike other shows (*cough*Heroes*cough*), lots of characters does not hurt the show.

Sure, maybe you have your favorite and when they’re not around you miss them, but writers manage to get everyone to exists and most of them always find ways to cross the path of others, usually during some pretty big party – because that’s the way it goes on the Upper East Side.

I’ll start with Aaron, and Dan and Serena and Lexie, the new ex from Aaron, because I want to get it out of the way. I’ve said before than I thought Aaron was pretty boring and I couldn’t care less about him, his life, or his exes. Okay I hadn’t actually mentioned (or thought of) his old conquests, but that’s the point, I don’t care. Things didn’t change that much, I wasn’t charmed by Lexie and I have to say the whole Dan dating Aaron’s ex while Aaron is dating Dan’s ex, that noise you hear in the back are snores.

Really, didn’t do much for me, and to get - again - Dan & Serena to look at each other and still not be over each other… Well let’s just say I sure hope they did “clear the air” and no one will have to ever talk about this, ever, because I fail to see them as the big couple destined to end up with each other writers might think they are.

They’re not, and we don’t even need them to be, because we have plenty of great couples to be made on the show. But first, Nate. We were wondering who he would end up with and how things would turn out, and as is the tradition on Gossip Girl, things got resolved pretty fast. It’s a thing on this show, most of the new plot lines introduced at any time never last for so long.

There was that letter Nate wrote to Jenny, and Vanessa stole, there was this question of whom he’ll chose, and now it’s done. That was fast, and disappointing. Not that I wanted him to end up with Jenny, I think I like things better with Nate & Vanessa together as the whole romance between N & J came out of nowhere really and never lasted more than a day, or close enough, but I didn’t like many of the things that happened to get there.

For starter, I didn’t like that after taking the perfect Little J and have her lost her way and behave really bad, the show decided to do the same to the other very nice girl and made Vanessa behave that way. The way she acted towards Jenny, and how she treated her when confronted with the picture of her & Nate on GG, there was something just wrong and mean in her attitude, knowing what she knew, what she did, with that letter in her purse that Jenny never got.
