Gossip Girl: Desperately Seeking Serena
By fred | April 29, 2008
(S01E15) This it the time of the week for gossips. Last week on Gossip Girl, it was all about a new character, a new character we only heard of, by the end. It looked like it would really be something, when after all those years another girl returned to the Upper East Side, after S before her, it was now time for G to come back. We didn’t know much abut her, but she was from Serena’s past so that was promise enough.
Still, it’s easy for a show to create lots of hype and build up to something gigantic, but when it comes down to actually delivering, it’s not always there. This was the big week for Gossip Girl, as we got to finally meet with Georgina. I say “finally”, but we’ve not really been expecting her for that long, about a week ago no one knew of her…
We all knew she was in town, and quite frankly I don’t know why Chuck said she wasn’t because there would be no reason for Georgina to send those “gifts” if she wasn’t actually going to be around, would there ? Very bad sources here, or just lame writing to desperately try to create surprise ? Because it was no surprise to see her here, and expect for those horrible huge sunglasses, it was all good!
I’m especially glad to see that G isn’t a good girl, and doesn’t seem to be heading anywhere near a new self like Serena did. It’s not that I like bad girls, but everyone on the show had this tendency to get (a lot) better : ever since she’s back Serena changed and doesn’t get drunk and party all night long, Blair might still be a bitch, she’s also more than just a bitch and we all love her that way, Chuck used to be nothing but a jerk and is now getting more friendly as well, Hell even Vanessa whom I used to hate at first is turning into a sweet girl ! And am I crazy, or are B & D almost getting friends, like real friends ?
We need some real bitches to stay that way, don’t we? Of course, Lil’J is always willing to help, and she’s going down the other road : she started as a nice sweet girl, and she’s now turning into a bitch, more on that later.
Back to G: so she’s back, and she’s determined to mess with S because of whatever might have happened in their past. Fine by me, catfights are always fun. But if G is everything one could have hoped for, I am forced to say that S totally deserves what happens to her, it’s all her fault. Acting stupid seems to be popular in the Upper East Side, but could anyone tell me why S didn’t tell D about G - except so that there could be drama, confusion, break-up, betrayal, etc ??
Okay, the two girls share this huge secret S doesn’t want anyone to know about. How does that prevent her from telling Dan that a girl from her past is back, a girl she used to be friends with ? She doesn’t have to say everything, just enough to tell the truth and let him know what’s going on without lying and all the BS that follows. It’s like she doesn’t trust Dan, even though he’s already aware of her troubled past, it’s like she hasn’t learned anything from past mistakes.
Now, adding to that how for some reason when in trouble, S doesn’t call her beloved D for help. She doesn’t even call her BFF, B, no she calls her new step-brother, the one and only Chuck ! Do that, and you’re not allowed to complain about anything. It’s a rule, whatever he did you didn’t agree with, is your fault. Whatever crap you have to go through because of such alliance is on you, because you called him girl!
Also a tip to anyone, a tip that seems so obvious yet everyone on TV forgets about it : when you get someone to lie for you, either tell him (or her) what to say, or ask him(/her) what (s)he said before you have to come up with another lie and be exposed. Seriously, how come Chuck & Serena didn’t talk about the lie he told Dan that very night, or first thing the next morning ?? It’s like she was trying to get caught, because she wanted to confess, only no she’s actually just stupid.
But while it is clear that they’re destroying the cute couple with one rich and one poor, they had to create another one, it’s how the Universe works, everything must be balanced or something. Spotted: Nate and Vanessa becoming the new cute couple in town, to unite poor and rich. And while both of them looked suddenly not how I used to remember them, they were actually pretty cute together. Not sure how long it will last though, if B has her say.
I just hope she doesn’t forget about Jenny first. Because as I said earlier, she’s turning into someone else completely. Sure, when that guy who’s name I forgot came by with hotdogs and all, it eventually looked cute and she seemed to actually like him, so much that she didn’t mind he found out she was, you know, “poor”. But let’s not forget that not so long ago, when she thought he himself was “only” a poor dog walker, then she wouldn’t even look at him. It’s not how he looks or who he is, it’s his name, and the number of zeros on his (parents’) bank account that matters to her now. Lil’J has changed, and it’s not for the best. And I just want to see Blair crushing her, for some reason.
Because when it comes to it, Blair is still the number one. I wasn’t disappointed by G and I’m sure there’s plenty to come, but B didn’t just spill drugs into some old friends drink or fooled S, something about anyone can do, or go meet with her boyfriend under a fake name. No, B got lil’J already out of the club, turned everyone back on her side and go them to work for her, and she also had someone who at first appeared suspicious of her to confess all of secrets, secrets which - of course - B used against the poor girl to destroy her. Try to match that, G!
This episode was actually pretty good. S isn’t talking to D or B anymore, only C. She’s also acting pretty stupid, but it’s Serena. In the end it was all fun, and so far the gorgeous Georgina lived up to the hype, and I can’t wait to see how she’s gonna play D only to mess with S, and how it will compare to what B might have in store for V. I have to say, I want to know who’s the biggest bitch : G, or B ?
