Gossip Girl: All About My Brother

(S01E16) As the promo department for the show would say, OMFG. Gossip Girl is the show that it is, and not everyone will like this kind of show, and that’s fine. And even if you do, you might not like everything about it, find some plots, characters or situations on the show not to your liking. But I think what this episode proved once again, it’s that there is one thing you cannot complain about on this show, it is that nothing happens.
Seriously, so much happened last night, if you actually stop and take a minute to think about it all, you’ll be pretty shocked that the episode only lasted about 42 minutes. In fact, looking back over the last few episodes, the same can be said on a more global thing : can you believe everything that happened simply since the show got back, after the writers’ strike ??
And while I say that as a good thing, it’s also not such a good thing. It’s great that plenty happened last night, and last week, and probably will next week. It just is, of course, but there’s also reasoned to be concerned, I think, when you realize that it wasn’t long ago the Little J was only trying to get inside the elite, and in over two weeks she got Blair out and became the new queen, found herself a boyfriend, who got outed through GG after J herself lied about their relationship, so she lost the boyfriend, and the crown.
Just looking back at this episode, it’s like it all happened on the same day : in the morning she has a great boyfriend, at noon she’s letting it known that they’re sleeping together and organizing a party, and by the time the day ends she’s crying on her dad’s shoulder after having lost everything. I’m not saying things are always slow, or that you can’t have a bad day, but it seems a bit too much.
I understand this season was shortened due to the strike, but maybe it’d be best not to try to get where the season was originally intended to end for its finale, and to postpone a few plots, because keeping up at that speed could have some pretty bad effects, like leaving us with an impression that things get rushed, or writers running out of ideas by the middle of next season.
So, I was really rooting for B to completely crush J, and it didn’t happened. Well, it kinda did, but let’s be honest, and while she probably didn’t mean it or even knows about it, the one responsible for it is no other than our good old frenemy Georgina. Had she not been around, Little J would probably still be wearing her crown right now, her douche of a “boyfriend” at her arm. Side note : that was the biggest surprise of the episode, as far as I’m concerned, that he was such a jerk. He really looked nothing like that last week, I didn’t see that one coming. I say let’s crush him as well…
Anyways, I was pretty happy to see J rise and, more importantly, fall. She’s been treating everyone so badly, including her father or the young Eric, who’s never been anything but a good guy ever since we’ve known him, and that was really not something even B would have done. In fact, she wouldn’t have done it, had E not tell her to do so. See, B might be a bitch, and she might be hiding it pretty well, but there’s an heart somewhere in there. J on the other side, at this point I’m not so sure. I guess we’ll see if she really becomes Dan’s little sister, or tried to actually go back into that world she just got a taste of.
Last week it was B who was the number one bitch, no doubt. And it’s just as obvious now that G has now taken her place. I’m most certain that outing Eric wasn’t an “honest mistake” from G, and to tell you the truth if it was it’d be the most depressing thing ever. What’s so great about her is that she’s totally like you’d expect her to be : she’s a true bitch at heart, she doesn’t care about anyone but her, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to win.
