Fox wants the head of Prison Break!

By fred | October 22, 2007

No, not that head.

Prison BreakWhile I suspect pretty much no one is excited about the upcoming episode of Prison Break, I just felt like expressing a few thoughts. I came to realize that Fox probably wants to ruin the show. It’s not new that when Fox put their hands on a great series, they ruin it or cancel it before too many people could embrace it.

But let’s took a look at how things went down, with Prison Break:

- First season was brilliant. I don’t care what the Emmy can say, we all know they’re stupid and don’t even watch TV anyways. First season was great!

- Then came the second season. No I don’t know how you feel, I’ve heard many saying it “sucked”, and I disagree. Sure, it had lots of inconsistency and plots that relied on pretty unrealistic/unbelievable things, but that ain’t really new. And honestly, who cares ?

I mean whoever (or is it whomever?) still watches 24 has got to agree here, it’s the kind of show you keep watching regardless, because it’s keeps being pretty entertaining. And I really think that with the second season writers & producers were able to pull it off very nicely. They went from a confined prison to the entire world, or the USA mostly, the show was indeed completely transformed, re-invented, and it was still great, entertaining, still had the same tone and rhythm to it…

In a new & different way, it was still Prison Break.

Overall, I think it was a good season. And it should have been the last. But of course Fox didn’t see things that way, “it does good numbers, we want good numbers, all we need to do is keep it up one more year”. Those execs have no clue of what “quality” or “creativity” could even mean.

- Fox asked and made a third season happened. This was already a shitty idea, IMO, but then they rejected the first story writers came up with for that third season. It didn’t feel like what they wanted, like they know anything about (good) television those guys!

Doesn’t matter, writers had to come up with something new. Something different. Something where Sara Tancredi wasn’t required for a full season, but only half a season at best. Only because actress Sarah Wayne Callies had a contract for full season, a contract she had been told before would be renewed, things didn’t go down smoothly.

And that’s understandable, in a way. I mean after all they had told her she would be part of the third season, the FULL season.

So thanks to Fox we were given the stupid Se7en move, with some body double and Sara’s head in a box. At that point, the show was pretty much dead to many already.

- But do not underestimate those censored execs over at Fox, they can be very resourceful. So guess what they did ? Exactly! Fox has confirmed that Prison Break would go on hiatus on December 17, for a few months!

Yes, you got that right, now that the show’s been deeply hurt and many of the fans are even considering dropping it, because of the very awful start this season had to offer, Fox had the brilliant idea to pull the “hiatus” card !

Because we all know how good it was for shows like Lost or Heroes last year, because we all know that if Jericho did so well it was all thanks to that hiatus, so why not give one to a series that is already struggling to keep its audience around as it is now!

- After December 17 Prison Break will leave the air, and everyone pretends that it will be back on April 14. My guess is, everyone will have completely forgotten about that stupid season by then, the new seasons of 24 and more important Lost will be on, even without the strike it looks incredibly bad.

So don’t bother watching tonight and forget about this season already, that’s what everyone should have done in the first place anyway. Starting with Fox.
